Key Points for the early May long weekend: A lot of dry weather. Feeling colder, especially at beginning of holiday with overnight frosts. Strong sunshine, cool airflow. Fine overall. Coat or thick jumper with your sunglasses.
Saturday- Dry but Cold
A cold start on Saturday with a brisk chilly north wind. Much of the UK will be fine, dry and sunny, just cold. High pressure out west will be settling the weather down. Any early wintry showers for North Sea coasts or snow for the far north of Scotland will fade during the morning.
Sunday – Sunny and still dry and cool
Another chilly start with frost again but with high pressure over the UK, the winds will be light. In sheltered sunny spots the sun will feel warm, worth putting on the sunscreen. But in the shade, it will still feel fresh or nippy as temperatures again struggle only into the low to mid-teens. The day looks dry apart from a few showers in the far north of Scotland early in the day, again with a wintry mix over the NW Highlands. The winds become westerly but stay light during the day and a few spots might reach 17C.
Bank Holiday Monday – Bit warmer. Still fine in the south
Some variation in model output: whether the high just holds on and fine, dry conditions continue or it turns a bit more unsettled from the NW. More cloud and maybe some showery rain from the west for northern Britain. Northern Ireland looks fine and southern Britain fine again, dry and bright and warmer in the mid to high teens with light westerly winds.
The cool nip in the air will have faded. Not bad at all.
