Thinking back to our last Bank Holiday weekend, Easter barely a week ago, there was all that warmth and sunshine with temperatures into the mid-twenties C.

For the Early May Bank Holiday weekend, it is looking much colder. As so often in the UK a small amount of time can result in big changes to our weather.

These charts show the 3-day temperature forecast mean compared to climate values. The reds were the high temperatures over Easter and the two charts below show average to slightly cool mid-week then much colder for Friday to Sunday. Bank Holiday Monday won't be as chilly. And throughout the weekend in sheltered sunny spots, it could feel very pleasant as the sunshine is strong.

For Easter weekend there was a large area of high pressure over Scandinavia and a feed of warm air from the SE. This weekend a large low pressure over Sweden and Finland will pull down the chilly feed of colder air from the Arctic. There will be wintry showers and hail, snow for the Scottish mountains.

Frosts will be widespread, Friday night looks especially cold, so gardeners take note and anyone off camping.

There will be a lot of dry, bright even sunny weather it will just be cool in the shade or breeze and cold once the sun disappears.

Temperatures in the mid-teens on Saturday but should rise for Bank Holiday Monday.
