As the Netherlands braces for Storm Conall, the UK will see quiet, chilly weather with fog and frost. By the weekend a very mild southerly flow will bring a warm end to November and 1st of December.
Storm Conall is bringing a windy afternoon across Lincolnshire, East Anglia and Kent with rain around The Wash. KNMI, the Dutch Met Service, named this low pressure as the Netherlands awaits strong winds and high gusts later on Wednesday.
The low pressure brought heavy rain to southern Egnland on Tuesday night and after impacting the Netherlands it will swiftly move over Germany and Poland on Thursday. There are further warnings including a red wind warning for two regions of Germany with mention of hurricane-force gusts.
Behind Conall, high pressure will build over the UK. this results in a settled Thursday before an expansive Atlantic low pressure throws cloud and then frontal rain our way. Another low pressure looks to nip in for Saturday so a more unsettled and blustery end to the week and the month. Overall, there will be lengthy dry spells for many parts of England and Wales.
Thursday
Away from Cornwall, it will be a quiet, cold start with frost and fog in places. There will be freezing fog which could cause issues for the morning rush hour. Frontal high cloud will have increased overnight from the Atlantic and milder air will encroach over Ireland and SW England during Thursday morning.
A southwesterly breeze will pick up reaching Northern Ireland and the Irish Sea but for SE England and London the still, cold conditions mean that fog could linger. Much of Britain will have a quiet but cold day, bright with milky skies and a few showery outbreaks will reach Northern Ireland and western Wales in the afternoon. Thursday night won’t be as cold and will be mild in the west. Rain will topple over Scotland in a southerly flow.
Friday
Frontal rain will drape around the UK, to the north of Scotland and down over Lewis and Ireland. Here there will be more cloud, a brisk breeze and mild air from the south. Over much of Britain, eastwards towards the high pressure, there will be pockets of low cloud but also brighter regions. Winds will still be light on a mostly dry day but it will feel cool for eastern Britain.
The Weekend
It looks much milder for this weekend with temperatures in double figures. There will be a SW breeze, bright spells and a few showers. Heavier showers will move over Northern Ireland and Scotland at times with some lively downpours passing by. In sunnier spots it will feel mild, especially for the end of November and Sunday is the 1st of December. At some point during the weekend, there will be a change, from the mild SW flow to a cold northwesterly with some heavier rain moving across the UK. There is uncertainty around the details for this but it looks like the colder air will be back for the start of the working week with snow showers for the Scottish mountains.
