A look ahead to the weather over the weekend, with high pressure still in charge of the UK's weather. There is some uncertainty for Remembrance Sunday, though, as fronts try to make inroads across the UK bringing some patchy rain.
Later this week we finally see the settled high pressure giving way to Atlantic weather fronts. The quiet, cloudy picture continues on Friday, although with holes in the cloud cover allowing sunshine over Scotland. On Saturday there will be thicker cloud with damp weather in places and by Saturday night and Sunday, a change as frontal bands sweep eastwards.
"Remembrance Sunday is a national opportunity to remember the service and sacrifice of all those who have defended our freedoms and protected our way of life. We remember the Armed Forces, and their families, from Britain and the Commonwealth, the vital role played by the emergency services and those who have lost their lives as a result of conflict or terrorism. Sunday is Remembrance Sunday with many outdoor events. Looking five days ahead, there is a band of cloud and rain moving across the UK from the west. The timings vary on different forecast models bringing uncertainty about which zone will be overhead for 11am. Closer to the high pressure, the remaining settled, cloudy weather in the east with a few breaks, a weakening band of rain from the Atlantic with western Britain most likely to be damp and lastly, brighter skies with freshening winds away to the northwest.
The rest of this week sees more quiet, steady weather even as the anticyclone edges away eastwards over Europe. Much of Europe has quiet conditions with fog being the main issue as we move further into November. The western end of the Mediterranean continues to see unsettled weather with heavy rain and thunderstorms, for southern France, eastern Spain and the Balearic Islands.
For the UK on Friday evening the flow will be from the southeast with a lot of cloud but clearer skies to the lee of high ground. With breaks in the cloud over parts of Scotland and north Wales, there could be a frost near to Inverness. By Saturday morning there will be patchy fog in places with light winds.
Saturday will be a mostly fair day, again more cloud in the south, more chance of sunshine in the north and just a few showery outbreaks for western coasts. Temperatures will vary from 10 to 17C and it will feel very different depending on the cloud cover.
Sunday morning
The ECM has a band of frontal rain over northern Scotland and western Britain with outbreaks of heavy rain over the hills and mountains. Dry, but possibly still cloudy, ahead of this for southeastern Britain and brightening up with sunshine behind the front for Northern Ireland.
The UKV Model shows the front fading away, cloudy skies ahead, damp weather for western England and Wales with sunny spells over northwestern parts of the UK behind the front. This is a much weaker band of rain than on the ECM, coming up against the eastern high pressure. The GFS model has a sunny dawn for London but soon clouding over. Much of the UK looks grey with damp weather for western Britain.
The current forecast for the National Service of Remembrance is for a dry, fair morning with light winds at The Cenotaph in Whitehall, London. It looks calm for England but more of a breeze over Scotland and strong SW winds for the Western Isles.
By the end of the weekend, there will be a more westerly flow as high pressure builds from the south. So more quiet weather but still a mix of clear spells and thicker cloud which could bring outbreaks of rain. Much like we’ve seen all week.

I used to get really down about the winters in the UK,rain, mild, windy, that's becoming the norm(hardly any decent cold).
But now,I've just lost interest in them tbh. I tend to just look for dry weather as my favourite, especially with frosts and...
Winter in the UK is always a dreary, depressing affair - which is why the cloudy weather of the past few days hasn't bothered me. I fully expect cloudy, slate-grey skies at this time of year. As long as it isn't raining and windy then I'm fairly...
Call me pessimistic, but I'm expecting this winter to suck. Will it be a washout like last winter? Probably not, but it'll most likely end up being very dull and mild overall with short-lived colder interludes that do not deliver much in the way of...
Seasonals not looking good at all, all of the 8 models are foreseeing a zonal winter season throughout January, February and March and the average shows the preferation of high pressure over mainland Europe and low pressure over the Greenland/Canada...
A lot of snow forecast for Hokkaido over the next 24 hours. 2 or 3 feet likely across a big swathe of the island.
