Damp and Cooler For Now - Maybe Much Colder Later

Many of us have had a brief taste of spring in recent days - topped off yesterday (away from the few fog bound spots) with some long sunny spells and temperatures peaking as high as 17.5c in Trawsgoed (Wales). Today it's all change though with more cloud and some rain pushing up from the southwest, then later this weekend and into next week wintry weather is looking increasingly likely to make a comeback.. Again this morning we have some fog patches affecting eastern and central areas, elsewhere it's greyer than of late with the best of any sunshine in northeast England, along with eastern and central Scotland. For the first time in a while we also have some rain in the mix - it's mainly light in nature and fairly patchy but it continue to move up from the southwest through the day, with the odd heavier burst in western parts especially. Temperatures will still be on the mild side across the southern half of the country, peaking into the teens again, but 6-9c more typical further north. Overnight and into tomorrow we keep pulses of rain pushing up from the southwest coming, and these will tend to become more organised as we get into Thursday and also during Friday with the some heavier spells of rain moving through here and there. Looking ahead to the weekend things stay unsettled and relatively mild to start, but it's from Sunday onward we start to see the potential for some significant changes with colder air possibly arriving from the northeast. There is still some uncertainty over timings and specific details of this with some model runs suggesting the cold won't make too many inroads during Sunday whereas others have a bitterly cold northeast wind cutting in with the risk of some snow by this stage.
