South-westerly winds continue to dominate, keeping temperatures above normal for much of England and Wales. A north-west/south-east split persists, with Atlantic systems bringing unsettled weather to Northern Ireland and Scotland, while a weak ridge keeps the south largely dry.
Winds mostly from a south-westerly quarter continue, so temperatures, especially over England and Wales, will remain mostly above normal. Central, southern, and eastern parts, although not entirely settled, continue to see the best weather, where heat and humidity will return for a while into the new working week.
Meanwhile, Northern Ireland and Scotland, particularly the north and west closer to the influence of Atlantic systems, continue to be windy at times with occasional rain or showers. We keep a northwest/southeast split into the coming week, with a weak transient ridge keeping most of England and Wales dry for today.
Although fine from the word go across the South West and much of the South, for most of England and Wales it's a cloudy start. The cloud is also thick enough to give a little mostly light rain or drizzle across the North West and parts of the Midlands, but this'll peter out. The remainder of the day is then largely dry with some sunshine coming through, especially in the East and South, but cloud amounts continue to vary.
It's a fine start across parts of East Scotland, but further West we have showers. These'll merge into longer spells of rain, heavy in places across West Scotland and Northern Ireland through the day, with the eastern half of Scotland perhaps seeing showers moving in later.
In a fresher day, top temperatures of 20 to 22C and 23C towards the South East will be down on recent values, in a mostly light south-west or southerly breeze. Over East Scotland, 18 or 19C is more likely where a southerly wind will freshen a little later. But further West, 16 or 17C is about the best you'll see, in an increasingly blustery southerly wind that may give gale force gusts across exposed parts of Northern Ireland and the Western Isles later.
For much of Scotland and Northern Ireland, it'll be a wet and windy evening and night, with bursts of rain occasionally heavy. It'll also be misty, especially over coasts and hills exposed to a southerly wind that'll be fresh or strong, with gale force gusts likely across the North and West. But it'll be very mild, with temperatures remaining close to 14 or 15C.
Cumbria and other parts of North West England may see some mostly light rain or drizzle moving in after dark, but for most of England and Wales, it'll be a dry evening and night. The East should see some sunshine to end the day, with clear intervals overnight. A south to south-westerly breeze will freshen a little in the West, but temperatures fall no lower than 12 to 15C.
Monday sees a cold front working its way slowly across Northern Ireland and Scotland, bringing further showers. But over England and Wales, after a dull start with patchy rain in the North West, the sun will come through mostly in the East and South, making it very warm and humid again. After perhaps a few sharp showers in the East, fresher air moves in from the West, which should have spread to all parts by mid-week.
