The pressure may have reduced for the men’s England football team, as they have already qualified for the last 16 at Euro 2024 before their match in Germany, but tonight affects their placing. The last group stage match for England will be against Slovenia at RheinEnergieStadion at 8pm in Cologne in the far west of Germany. The weather looks fine and warm for all four matches this evening.

Temperatures in Cologne/Koln will reach 29C on Tuesday, similar to the heat expected in England today. Surrey recorded 28.3C yesterday with higher likely today for London and the Home Counties, possibly passing 30C.

For fans in the UK
Even by 8pm, temperatures will still be in the mid to high 20s C for inland parts of southern England, a sultry evening for viewing. The winds are light thanks to a slack flow from the Atlantic across to the Baltic Sea but coastal counties could feel enough of a breeze off the sea that temperatures will be lower at around 17C. It looks dry and sunny for Tuesday evening. There is a weak weather front draped over Scotland and Northern Ireland that will keep more cloud over the far north of England. There will be a few sharp showers over the Pennines and Cheviots but the main rain threat is for parts of Scotland later today.

For European fans in Germany
There is the risk of thunderstorms later on Wednesday in the SW of Germany. Ukraine play Belgium in Stuttgart in that region. The risk of thunderstorms expands up through the country by Thursday but there are two rest days planned until the final 16 round starts at the weekend.

There looks to be a surge of heat for Germany but later on Sunday that should ease as both matches are in the west. A low pressure which will end our UK heat will introduce fresher air to much of northwestern Europe for the start of July
