Everyone should see some warm sunshine this weekend, although maybe not all the time. With high pressure nearby it will be settled and bright.
With high pressure nearby the weekend is looking fine and bright with warm sunshine for many and a lot of dry weather. Interruptions will come from a fading front bringing more cloud over a central swathe of the UK on Saturday and an incoming weak warm front for western Scotland with more cloud and patchy rain. Any sheltered sunshine will feel warm although a north wind will affect southeastern Britain on Saturday. Temperatures will be in the mid to high teens or low twenties Celsius but cool for Saturday night.
Much of the UK has seen a fair Friday but there has been more cloud and showery rain over the southwest linked to an area of low pressure over mainland Europe. This will fade away over the English Channel by teatime and leave a dry evening. The cloud cover will take its time to thin and break, lingering around the Thames estuary and Suffolk coast. Over the far north of mainland Scotland, there will be more cloud and a little patchy rain from an old occluded front. This band will edge southwards on Saturday.
Saturday
There will be a lot of fine and bright weather. Most places will be dry. That old front will bring a bit more cloud over SE Scotland to start the day with more cloud through the morning for southern Scotland, Northumberland and Northern Ireland. This will shift southwards allowing more sunshine but there will be more cloud with bright spells for northern England, the Midlands then later for Wales. Often it will still be fair but there is the chance that the cloud band will be thick enough at times to bring a bit of rain. This is more likely near North Sea coasts early on Saturday morning and then over the higher ground inland, say the Pennines during the day the odd showery burst for the Yorkshire Dales or Cambrian mountains. A very isolated chance.
Sunday
By Sunday morning there will be a westerly flow for the northwest of the UK with low cloud and some damp weather. This will mainly be for the west coast of Scotland but could affect Northern Ireland too. It will be cooler here but elsewhere should have a warm, fine day.
Weekend Temperatures
Northern Ireland will feel a bit warmer on Sunday for County Down up to 17 or 18C. For Powys, Cardiff, Bristol and the West Midlands, it will feel warm on Sunday with temperatures into the low 20sC. A few southern cities might see 23 or 24C in the sunshine. Northwest England and north Wales could see temperatures in the mid to high teens on Saturday but depending on the cloud cover it may feel a bit cooler on Sunday with a westerly breeze off the Irish Sea. The east coast of Scotland and England will feel cool on Saturday with a breeze off the North Sea. This will be a brisk northerly for East Anglia and will make quite a difference.
As a westerly flow sets in for Sunday over Scotland, there will be bright spells and warmth with temperatures reaching 18 to 21C. Much of southern Britain should have a fine, warm Sunday with temperatures in the high teens to low twenties.
