Halloween weather - October Trick or Treat?

A look at the forecast for Tuesday evening as all sorts head out into the night for Halloween.

Okay, witches, ghouls, werewolves and Spiderman are you going to get soaked tonight? Will your makeup run, your knotty wig get even more bedraggled or your cloak covered in mud?

You might want some sturdy boots or wellies as this October has been very wet. There are still huge puddles from Storm Babet, recent rain and coastal spray and there is some rain in the forecast for tonight, but not for everyone.

The main area of rain will approach from the southwest this evening. Scotland looks dry, clear and chilly apart from one or two showers caught on the cool northeasterly flow. Wrap up warm when you are out Guising.

In between the approaching frontal rain band for SW Britain and the clear skies of Scotland, there is a rather messy zone. A fading occluded front is bringing a band of cloud with outbreaks of rain. Northern Ireland has seen significant flooding from ongoing rain but this is now fading. It will take its time today with a damp feeling into the evening but there will be a lull. The rain will stop, although more will arrive from the south later tonight, so don’t linger.

For the rest of Britain, under the cloudy damp weather by day there should be some fair settled weather this evening. With light winds, it won’t feel cold but there could be a bit of rain that just lingers into the evening. Not quite giving up the ghost from this fading frontal zone.

The main frontal rain will soon be over Cornwall then Devon this afternoon. It will turn wet for more of the West Country and south Wales by 6 to 7pm. The rain will also extend across to Hampshire and the Isle of Wight.

Good job it's not tomorrow night. That's when Storm Ciaran arrives and there are already wind and rain warnings.
