Rainfall

We’ve had a thread of fronts dangled across the UK this week, bringing pulses of rain, more cloud and an unsettled picture for many. The far SE and far north have escaped much of the wet weather but overnight an area of low pressure developed and brought in heavier and more persistent rain. This affected Northern Ireland and Scotland with quite a soaking. The mina area is clearing away from Grampian into the North Sea with a trailing weaker front moving southwards through England and Wales.  This is the cold front which will bring a change of airmass for the end of the working week.

After that, it is home and dry for June. High pressure builds over the UK bringing a lot of settled weather. Cloud cover varies and there could be rain skirting the very far north of Scotland but overall it looks fine, bright, dry and hotter.

Day temperatures

Today will be warm for SE Britain. Temperatures will reach 26C around London, it will be warm and muggy. This morning will be warm over more of southern Britain but as the frontal band nudges in things begin to change. The cloud and patchy rain blocking out the bright sunshine which continues to heat up SE England.

Then a dip for Thursday and Friday, temperatures only in the teens, it will feel much fresher before warmth begins to return through the weekend. Gradually temperatures recover and there is a strong signal that there will be heat for next week. Temperatures into the low to mid-twenties for Northern Ireland and Scotland, mid to high twenties and low thirties for England and Wales. 32 or 33C would be 90 Fahrenheit.  And that the heat could last into the start of July.

Night time temperatures

It will be a warm, balmy evening for southern England tonight but as the frontal band sweeps southwards and NW winds take hold, much cooler, fresher air will flow over the UK. Temperatures will fall to 6C away from the cities and Thursday night will be cool as well. Quite a change after the warmth in the SE.

Winds

With high pressure building in, the winds over the next week look light, we could see early mist too. Thursday will be the only exception with a brisk cool NW winds. These winds will be strong over Aberdeenshire and the Northern Isles by the afternoon with rough seas into the evening.
