As the group stages draw to a close, attention now moves to the knockout phase of the UEFA European football championships. The EURO 2020 (held over from last year) 'Round of 16' starts on Saturday 26th June. Wales up first and England playing on Tuesday.

The next set of matches take place in London, Amsterdam Seville, Budapest, Copenhagen and Glasgow after two rest days and more COVID testing. It seems a while now since the soaking pre-match build-up when England played Scotland but southern England is in for more rain. Wimbledon also begins next week so more rain seems inevitable.

Saturday 26th Wales v Denmark at Johan Cruyff Arena in Amsterdam 5pm. It looks warm, fair but cloudy and feeling muggy with the chance of a shower even a thunderstorm into the evening.  For those watching at home in Wales, Saturday evening will see a few showers inland but staying drier in the north, with more cloud and a higher risk of rain later in the day. Warm enough at 18C for Cardiff.

Italy v. Austria at Wembley 8pm. This should stay dry but also be quite cloudy at 20C. However, there will be showers moving up from the south with torrential downpours forecast overnight. So just need to keep an eye on the timings for this incoming rain.

For those sitting outside to watch any of the matches, the UK weekend weather looks mixed with some rain but also warm sunshine.

Sunday 27th Budapest 5pm will be hot and sunny at around 30C.  Seville will be even hotter with temperatures in the day reaching 35C. Still hot and sunny by 8pm.

Monday 28th. Warm and sunny in Copenhagen 5pm with temperatures of 24C. National Arena Bucharest will be hot and rather humid with the risk of showers, even thunderstorms by 8pm.

Tuesday 29th   England play Germany at Wembley at 5pm on a day that still looks rather mixed. Hopefully, the showers will have cleared by the end of the afternoon. The weather in Scotland is looking much better by next week and so for the last match before the Quarter Finals, there should be warm sunshine in Hampden Park, Glasgow.
