UK Weekend weather - looking fair but nippy. Sport and Festival forecasts too

After a blustery Friday, the weekend weather is looking much better. More settled some sunshine but feeling cool, even nippy by night. Cricket, F1 and festival forecasts too.

Issued: 5th September 2019 16:08

This weekend is looking quite calm and settled but cooler, especially by night. Friday will be a blustery day with rain or showers really quite restless. But as the low pressure responsible moves away to Scandinavia high pressure builds in from the west ready for Saturday. It just about manages to hold on for Sunday although fronts will be appearing in the far NW.

So, if you do have weekend plans what can you look forward to across the UK?

Saturday looks dry and bright but cool for most with a nippy start.  There will be just a few showers brought in on the north to NW breeze which will be fresh along North Sea coasts. So, for eastern shores, that wind will be quite noticeable. Any showers will be well scattered and there will be sunny spells appearing. Temperatures in the mid to high teens, a few spots in southern Britain up to 20 or 21C

UK temperatures Sat and Sunday

Let’s Rock Essex, the RETRO Festival in Chelmsford this Saturday featuring The Quo, Jimmy Somerville and Tony Hadley amongst others. The weather looks bright and fine with sunny spells. Temperatures will reach 18C but it will be worth staying out of the breeze which will make it feel cooler and the temperatures will fall away quickly after dark.

Reminisce festival celebrates the best in classic dance music. Also this Saturday, featuring Judge Jules, Dave Pearce, Andy Carroll and D Ream in Merseyside. The weather looks fine and bright, sunny spells but feel a bit cool, especially after dark. Keep up with the forecast here

Cricket The fourth Ashes test continues at Old Trafford. After a blustery day on Friday with some rain about, Saturday looks much better. Lighter winds, sunny spells and only a small chance of a shower. Cool though if you are not in the sunshine.

UK frost risk Saturday night temps

Once it goes dark you really will notice a difference and overnight there is a risk of frost for inland northern parts. September is the start of meteorological autumn and the changes really get a move on this month.

For Sunday it will be a fine, chilly start with sunshine and only light winds. The first signs of change will be in the far NW with cloud over the western Isles and a SW wind picking up. There is some variation in the model timings about the arrival of frontal rain to western Scotland and Northern Ireland but a change in the weather looks to arrive on Sunday pm.

F1 In Monza for the Italian grand prix, Saturday’s qualifying may be fine, dry and warm up to 27C but Sunday looks a different story. Heavy thundery showers are forecast with low pressure over northern Italy

Next week could see some more wet and windy coming our but quite a lot of uncertainty as ex-tropical systems add their extra energy into the north Atlantic flow.
