Glastonbury is next week, with heat and the risk of thunderstorms in the run up to the opening. During the festival, the weather is looking okay, cooler as the week goes by. Will it rain?
It’s still a bit far ahead for a comfortable detailed forecast. Will it rain? We can identify trends and if a big area of high pressure was forecast that would be showing itself by now, which would bring fine, settled and sunny weather. However, It’s not quite that simple at the moment but it's not looking too bad and on the Netweather we are going for ...
There are some themes emerging, heat for start/middle of the week after a dry weekend. We can see the build-up period which looks like a fine, settled weekend and then a mix of heat, humidity and the risk of thunderstorms. So for ground conditions, it will mean some drying out in any weekend sunny spells but then the risk of getting briefly waterlogged in a hefty downpour. Showers and thunderstorms are hit and miss, so if your app is showing showers remember it’s a risk rather than a certainty. 7-day Glastonbury forecast.
The heat for the last week in June will feed in from the SE and looks to reach Somerset Tuesday/Wednesday. So mid 20sC, maybe even high 20sC. For those arriving on Weds 26th, it will be worth keeping an eye on the forecast to see if any more thunderstorms are forecast. If the heat and humidity does reach across Britain, Wednesday night will be muggy, hot and close.
As a theme, it looks like the weather turns cooler later in the week as high pressure builds to the west of the UK and draws down air from the north. Cooler means temperatures in the high teens with strong sunshine and high UV but also nippier evenings and nights, or early next morning. And a distinct change if the first day is hot and humid, don’t pack with just that in mind. Take a jumper. And just take your wellies, take them. There could be thunderstorms lingering on Wednesday, there does look to be a sunny lull but the risk of a few showers by the weekend. Not bad overall.
Winds look light throughout, good news for those who aren’t skilled at pitching and securing a tent or if you have a huge flag or banner.
The grass pollen season is well underway. Levels have been high or very high recently so bear that in mind for the great outdoors.
With more of a nod to the whole climate crisis, global heating movement Glastonbury will not have any single-use plastic bottles this year. If it is hot and humid early on you will need plenty to drink so take a refillable bottle. Throw away “festival” tents are a no-no. Take stuff home - love the farm, leave no trace.
Keep an eye on the Netweather radar, there is an app too.
Suncream, antihistamine, sunhat and shades, hopefully, it won't rain too much and the lightning will stay away. Don't want any delays or interruptions for thunderstorms. More on the Netweather community forum with J10s annual Glastonbury weather thread.
