UK Weather: Sunny And Hot Again With A Handful Of Showers

Just a few showers around again today but once more the majority will see a fine, warm or hot day. High pressure will be right over the top of the UK again by this weekend.

Writing a forecast during the last couple of weeks has been a bit like writing lines when you were at school: sunny and hot, sunny and hot, sunny and hot, sunny and hot, etc. etc. But despite the fact that overall there's very little going to change during the next week, there is some variety at the moment.

A few showers developed yesterday

Pressure has temporarily dipped enough to allow a few showers to get going into the afternoon and evening; yesterday saw a good few affect southern England in particular, with one or two which became quite intense for a time. Today will be similar, with a handful popping up later, although of course the majority will miss them and enjoy another fine, often sunny and warm, if not hot day.

Temperatures will be a little more varied across the country today than they've been recently too, as fresher, cooler air has made its way down from the northwest during the last 24 hours. So for a good part of Scotland, and much of Ireland the high-teens to low-twenties will be about the max. Further south and east, we're back into the mid-high twenties, perhaps even the low thirties in the south and particular southeast.

Temperatures this afternoon

Tonight, any showers will die away. There's likely to be some low cloud moving inland into eastern Britain which'll take a short while to burn off in the morning. Then, it's another fine day, there'll be a varying amount of cloud drifting around at times, but most will see good sunny spells. Temperatures will be warmest in southern and central parts with the mid-high twenties, perhaps low-thirties here. Elsewhere, a touch cooler, but still into the low-twenties widely. There will be a shower risk again, but even more limited than today's, with just the southeast corner and parts of Ireland at risk of seeing a few.

This weekend, high pressure proper is back with us again, so the shower risk pretty much goes, and we're back to the status-quo with bags of sunshine and very warm/hot temperatures.

High pressure over the UK on Saturday

The shape of the high will mean the far north and northwest of the country isn't going to catch the full benefit of it, with some extra cloud and perhaps drizzly bits of rain coming in off of the Atlantic at times - more particularly on Sunday.

Looking ahead to next week, there's very little change to report, so more sunshine and more heat - so plenty of opportunities to keep practising those lines.
