Sunday marks the start of meteorological Spring, we’ve already seen some spring sunshine and warmth last week in the south, with the temperature reaching 18.7C at Kew Gardens in London on Wednesday. The week ahead will also see some early spring warmth, with temperatures reaching the mid-teens in the south, with winds from the south or southwest, perhaps locally higher.
High pressure builds in the week ahead, turning the weather more settled
Although today and Monday will feature brisk south to southwesterly winds, a lot of cloud and some patchy rain or drizzle for many, Tuesday will mark the start of an improving picture for most for the rest of the week, as low pressure nearby to the west today retreats northeast to allow high pressure to build in from the southwest before retreating east later in the week to allow some rain to return in places for a time. Though high pressure looks set to return for next weekend.
Rather mild this coming week, as the 2 metre temperature anomaly chart for Mon-Fri below shows

For now, a warm front pushing in from the southwest will bring a lot of cloud through the day, with patchy outbreaks of rain spreading northeast across England, Wales and N. Ireland, more persistent rain across western Scotland this morning before turning showery. Turning drier and perhaps brighter later from the southwest across southern and central areas. A brisk south to southwesterly wind will bring in rather mild air for all, temperatures reaching 10-13C generally.
A band of more persistent and squally rain arrives from the west across Ireland and N. Ireland this evening before moving in across western areas overnight. Drier with clear spells developing across the east, mild but windy overnight, especially in the west.
An unsettled start to the week on Monday, with persistent wind and rain, in the north and west to begin the day. The band of rain along a cold front will make only slow progress east before fizzling out during the day. Southeastern areas may remain largely dry for much of the day, very mild here with temperatures reaching 12-14C. Slighter cooler and brighter conditions spreading into the north and west in the afternoon, but with showers in the far northwest.
Tuesday expected to become drier and brighter as high pressure builds across the UK from the southwest. There may be some local fog and a chilly start in the northwest, a stalled weak front may bring cloudier skies across central areas in the morning, but generally a dry and bright or sunny day, temperatures could reach 16C in London, but generally highs reaching the low teens.
Wednesday will see high pressure firmly established, slowly drifting to the east of the UK, pulling in a mild south to southeasterly flow. Some early mist or fog possible again in places, burning back to leave most with a dry and bright or sunny day. Temperatures reaching 10-13C widely, perhaps 15-16C across southern and eastern England.
Thursday likely to see a band of rain moving in from the west across the far west during the day, but for many it will mostly dry, bright or sunny and very mild, temperatures again reaching the mid-teens or higher towards the southeast.

Frontal system slowly clearing east Thursday night, bringing some patchy rain east across England, outbreaks of rain slow to clear SE England and East Anglia, before joining the rest of the UK to drier and sunnier conditions from the west, as another ridge of high pressure builds in from the southwest.
Next weekend looking mostly dry, settled and mild, with some spring sunshine, though cloud and rain may plague the far northwest.
