Although a few light showers persist especially in the east, an anticyclone moving across Scotland will bring increasingly dry conditions, with milder, sunnier weather developing as we move into the week ahead.
Although mainly dry across the UK, it continues to be a different story over central and southern Europe. We've seen fresh snow across the Dolomites, southern Alps and more recently around Val D'Isere and Alpe D'Huez, before we see a change here to finer and eventually warmer weather into next week.
But it's been particularly wet across the Balkans and northern Italy in particular, where there's been serious flooding. We've seen cars washed away in torrents of water around Venice and Florence, the latter receiving a whole average month's rainfall in a day. The Iberian Peninsula has also seen further showers and thunderstorms, with more heavy rain expected here by or around mid-week.
Closer to home and despite a pressure rise, the north and east have continued to see a few mainly light showers. But with an anticyclone making its way across the North of Scotland on Sunday night into Monday before finally ending up over central Europe, it'll be dry for a time into the new working week as skies clear from the east.
Many northern areas have seen a lot of cloud this morning, with a few light showers mainly in the east. But the cloud will tend to break this Sunday afternoon especially over Scotland and Northern Ireland to give some sunshine. Further South after a fine but frosty start (-6C at Benson first thing) it's been a sunnier morning. It'll remain so south of the M4, while tending to become more cloudy from the north through the afternoon.
Winds will be mostly light between East and North, but with a fresher North Easterly towards the south east and in the Channel where you may also see a few showers. Top temperatures 8 to 11C, perhaps 12C around Dumfries and Strathclyde.
After dark England and Wales probably see more in the way of cloud and the odd light shower, making a frost less likely except where skies break for any length of time. Across Scotland and Northern Ireland there'll be clear spells making a frost here more likely. Apart from the odd light shower mainly in the east it'll be dry in light winds, but still with a chilly North Easterly wind towards the south east and in the English Channel. Lowest temperatures 'across the board' -2 to +4C depending on cloud cover.
On Monday there's likely to be a fair amount of cloud over England and Wales. The new working week may also see a further scattering of light showers mainly in the south and east at first. Northern Ireland may also see a few, but the emphasis should be on mainly dry weather, with Scotland probably seeing the best of the sunshine.
Through the afternoon eastern areas may see skies breaking as well to give some sunshine to end the day. Winds light over Scotland but with a fresher East or North Easterly in the south. Despite this it should end up slightly milder, with afternoon temperatures in the range 9 to 12C perhaps 13C in the sunnier more sheltered parts of the north.
Clearer skies should spread from the east to probably all but the far west and south west after dark. But in a mainly dry night there may be enough of an East or North Easterly breeze and cloud for a while to prevent a frost except probably in the north. Lowest temperatures -2 to +3C depending on cover.
The remainder of the week sees the weather gradually becoming more spring-like, with temperatures into the mid to upper teens Celsius for a time as winds turn into a more southerly quarter. But later in the period it'll be turning more unsettled as pressure falls, with showers moving in especially to the south and west by Friday or into the weekend.
