The weekend is looking drier which will be good news for those on half term holidays this week.
Overall the weekend weather is looking drier and more settled and it will feel warm in any sunshine.
Friday afternoon sees an area of cloud and showery rain moving south over East Anglia and southeast England, clearing away from Kent later in the evening. There will be cool northerly wind, noticeable for eastern England all day and around the Irish Sea coasts down to north Devon. The odd shower will brush the far north of mainland Scotland but overall Friday evening will be dry and feel pleasant in any sunny, sheltered spots.
High pressure will be nearby settling the weather down across the UK. Temperatures in the sunshine could reach 18 to 22C away from the ongoing northerly breeze over eastern England right down to Sussex. Overall there will be a lot of fair, steady weather but as we will be at the edge of the high pressure there will be some pesky onshore cloud cover. Lincolnshire, East Anglia, London and the Home Counties could see more cloud, especially in coastal areas where it will turn grey and damp.
The UKV model shows further showery outbreaks of rain, mostly on Saturday morning for SE Britain but the ECM model isn't so keen with a drier but still cloudy picture. So uncertainty here. For many Saturday will be fair and dry with bright or sunny spells. In the light winds, it will feel fine. There will just be the odd shower for inland Wales which could drift towards Swansea then Dartmoor later in the day.
With clear skies for Saturday night, it will feel cooler than on Friday night. Temperatures will dip into single figures with very light winds away from the far northwest of Scotland and far southeast of England. For those off to see Take That at Southampton St Mary's both nights look okay weather-wise. Saturday evening should be bright but there is that uncertainty from the cloud cover in the southeast. Sunday will be warmer with more sunshine. The Blenheim Palace Triathlon is on this weekend and both days look fine and bright. Temperatures will be in the mid-teens on Saturday with a moderate blustery breeze. On Sunday the winds will be lighter, tipping into the 20s Celsius. The Sea Bangor festival in North Down should be fair and bright. It could feel warmer by Sunday afternoon but Saturday will feel cool in the northerly breeze.
Sunday
By Sunday morning the flow over the top of the high pressure will shift things. There will be a westerly wind across Scotland bringing more cloud and grey, damp weather to the west coast. Eastern Scotland will be warm and fine. Northern Ireland will start off bright but cloud over in a westerly breeze. There will be the odd shower by the afternoon and temperatures will be around 15 to 19C depending on any glimpses of sunshine.
High cloud will gradually creep southeastwards over the Irish Sea into Northern England with a northwesterly breeze. Much of England and Wales stays sunny on a warmer day in the south. Temperatures will reach 19 to 24C.
Pollen
The temperatures will creep up slightly for the end of the weekend in southern Britain and we will see increasing pollen levels. Southern areas could see high grass pollen counts, moderate to low further north and nettle pollen is also increasing. It has to be exam season. Do remember your sunscreen in the sunshine as the UV levels rise.
