Issued: 6th July 2022 15:41

High pressure will be over the UK for this weekend which means a lot of fine and dry weather. Temperatures are rising into the twenties Celsius for more areas. However, frontal bands with more cloud, blustery west winds and outbreaks of rain will still graze the far north.

It's good news for Wimbledon with sunshine, dry weather and temperatures up to 28C. So, it will feel very warm on the show courts, for those sitting on the sunny side but not impactful heat.

For the last day of the RHS Royal Hampton Court Palace Garden Festival, more fine weather after a great few days in East Moseley. The sunny spells for Surrey continue but just a bit more of a breeze on Saturday, still light though.

Friday evening will still be warm in the southeast but it turns much cooler from the north with temperatures overnight down into single figures for inland northern Britain and Co. Antrim. Worth bearing in mind if you are off camping.

Temperature maps for saturday and sunday

Western and northwest Scotland will be cool and blustery on Saturday but other parts see warm weekend weather with temperatures in the high teens and twenties Celsius. London could see 30 Celsius by Sunday.

For the Women’s Euro matches on Saturday. Portugal V Switzerland at Wigan & Leigh looks bright and dry at 18C with a moderate breeze at 5pm for kick-off. And still feeling warm in Sheffield at 8pm as the Netherlands play Sweden.

The Open Championships will be limbering up at St Andrews from Sunday 10th but the Scottish Open will be underway for the start of this weekend in East Lothian. It has been windy on Wednesday for North Berwick before play begins with a strong west wind, gusting to 50mph. Thursday looks warm at 23C and not as windy but for the weekend the west wind looks set to return. A moderate westerly wind with a fair amount of cloud and some sunny spells with temperatures of 19 to 22C.

For St Andrews into next week there looks to be a lot of fair weather, dry and bright but sometimes blustery from the southwest or west.

High pressure centred to the southwest of the UK this weekend

A warm front will bring more cloud across Scotland for a time on Saturday again with patchy light rain for west coast Scotland and perhaps Northern Ireland with more rain for the Northern Isles. For the rest of the UK, it will be a dry, fine and warm weekend.
