End of February weekend weather

After the snow and ice, this weekend looks drier and not as cold for the UK. Fair but blustery for the Six Nations rugby matches on Saturday and Sunday.

After the Thursday cold snap which brought snow and ice for some in the UK, the weekend won’t be as chilly and there will be a good amount of dry weather.

Friday evening looks nippy but not as cold with very light winds for SE Britain, London around 7C. Northern Britain, around 4 or 5C with a light breeze but it will be milder for western Scotland and Northern Ireland with temperatures around 7 or 8C. A brisk SW wind here though so still feeling nippy after dark.

UKsnow

A brief taste of winter with snow showers Thursday into Friday with ice warnings.

A deep low pressure will move towards Iceland as high pressure away to the southwest swings round southern Britain and away to the east. This brings the drier, more settled weather for Saturday but the low over Iceland does have some influence. Through Friday night the southerly winds freshen for Ireland and become strong for western Scotland with high gusts for the Highlands and Islands. This blustery weather with strong gusts over high ground will last through Saturday for Northern Ireland, Wales, Cornwall & Devon, Cumbria and much of Scotland. So, if you are considering hill walking do be aware there will still be blustery conditions.

UK weather this weekend, not as cold

In the southerly flow, out of the wind, it will feel ‘not as cold’ with temperatures of 7 to 11C on Saturday and a touch higher by Sunday.

For the Six Nations rugby on Saturday at Murrayfield, Twickenham and the Aviva Stadium on Sunday afternoon. Edinburgh looks dry but cloudy. The air temperature will say 8C but feel more like 4C in a moderate, gusty wind.

Bright and fair for west London. Temperature, 10C but feeling more like 7C in the blustery breeze.

A fair, cloudy afternoon in Dublin with a light southerly wind.

UK rain

Much of England and Wales and eastern Scotland stay dry through Saturday. The UK is within a wide warm sector, but the cloud could be thicken enough to give dampness and patchy light rain over Northern Ireland and western Scotland and perhaps Cumbria and central Scotland. Fine elsewhere.

The cold front pushes across Ireland during the early hours of Sunday. It will be windy for northern Scotland with lee gusts for Lothian too. A wet start with mountain snow to western Scotland and again dampness to western Britain for a time, but the front is fading.

A new Atlantic low is spinning up for the end of the weekend and could bring strong winds and gales early on Monday and a band of heavy rain taking its time across Britain by day. At least the flood hit areas will have a respite lull before that and high pressure looks to build next week, so more settled and drier conditions.
