July weather as camping and caravanning sites fill up

Summer holidays now underway and people are heading off for a break, perhaps camping or caravanning as the July weather becomes mixed for the end of the month. Cool evenings.

Summer holidays are now underway, and more people are needing a change of scenery. This might be staying in a holiday cottage, visiting bubble family or finally heading off in your caravan or tent.

Caravan and campsites are now reopening although the July weather has been a bit mixed so far, also cooler than average. Sweltering in a tent in a heatwave isn’t ideal so temperatures staying in the high teens and low to mid 20sC might be okay, just. The nights are still looking cool for the time of year though. There is rain in the forecast, hit and miss showers with warm sunshine in between. The weekend looks unsettled and so does next week, for the end of July as low pressures head in from the Atlantic.

Things to remember if you haven’t been away for a while:

It might be July, but the cool evenings and nights are here to stay.

Sunscreen, hats and shades- we’ve been lurking inside, at home for a long time. Remember UV can still get through cloud cover and the cool air can be deceiving if you are outside all day.

Check which facilities are open on site and the local regulations for shopping.

Yes, you need a raincoat by the end of the weekend. Wellies – you might as well for the children

Bala, Snowdonia Wales – The Camping and Caravanning Club

“Enjoy the tranquillity of the Snowdonia National Park from this peaceful rural site.” CCC.

The week starts off with fine, settled weather thanks to the high pressure nearby. There is the chance of a few showers mid-week with more cloud about. Temperatures dip with less sunshine down from the high teens to mid-teens and it will feel cool overnight. The west then NW breeze will bring the showers over north Wales on Thursday, but it won’t rain all day. By the weekend, an Atlantic low will bring wind and rain in from the west. Sunday looks better than Saturday.

The nearby Bala Lake Railway is now re-open and offers a 9-mile return journey alongside Bala Lake, through the Snowdonia National Park on a narrow-gauge steam train.

“surrounded by rolling wooded countryside and situated near the Pilgrims Way, so there are many lovely walking trails - in particular across the North Downs.” CC

Plenty of fair weather around this week with more sunshine at the beginning and then increasing cloud. Temperatures will be in the low 20sC with light winds. In the evening and overnight it will feel quite cool as temperatures dip down to 12 or 13C. There will be a spell of wet and windy weather at the weekend. Currently, the forecast is showing that Saturday night into Sunday.

Tollymore Forest Park,  Newcastle Co. Down - NI Forest Service

Overall, there will be a lot of fair, often bright weather about with just the odd shower and light winds for Co. Down. The air temperatures are in the mid to high teens at most and it will feel cool in the evening and overnight. Thursday looks the most unsettled of the weekdays and currently the forecast looks wet and blustery for Saturday but with an improvement on Sunday as the weekend low pressure moves by.

Wild Camping

Leave no trace. For many parts of UK, you have to check first or get permission to camp. Campfires or disposable BBQs on the ground have already resulted in extra work for the Fire service. It is cool once the warmth of the sun disappears and the weekend weather does include a spell of wet weather. Remember your midge spray if you are off to the Scottish Highlands and maybe have a last look for Comet Neowise this week.
