Here we go again - more rain as unsettled weather makes a comeback

Unsettled weather will spread from western parts to the rest of the country over the next 24 hours as we head back into the now-familiar wetter pattern again.

Issued: 21st November 2019 09:25

Ireland and western fringes of Britain (especially the southwest) have already seen the return of the rain this week, and now the next couple of days will see it making a comeback to other regions. Today and Friday will see a relatively slow spread of showery rain up from the southwest, but by the weekend, more prolonged spells of wet weather will be back in the mix too.

As the weather changes back to being unsettled again, it'll also become milder than it's been of late. Highs may touch into the teens this weekend and frosts will be limited to the north and northwest of the UK.

For today though, 5-9c will about be your lot this afternoon, with a fair amount of cloud around - even the sunshine in western Scotland will tend to fill in through the morning. We also have showery outbreaks of rain affecting a good part of Ireland, southwest England and south Wales. This will edge slowly northeast through the day, with more also spreading into other parts of southern England later on.

This evening and overnight, the showers continue to move north and east, spreading through other parts of Wales, the Midlands and continuing to affect southern England. By dawn, northern England will be in on the showery action, and some showers will have spread into eastern and northern Scotland by this point too. Some of the rain will be heavy at times - especially in southern England where one or two of the showers could be thundery.

Winds will strengthen as the day wears on too, especially near to coasts and most notably on the south coast, as low pressure nears. Then overnight and into the start of Saturday, the next spell of rain makes its move up from the south, with some heavy outbreaks spreading their way north across the whole country by the end of the day on Saturday. Sunday is likely to start drier with just a scattering of showers, but more wet and windy weather will be on the way, moving up from the southwest later on.
