There is much talk of rain as we head into Cheltenham week.  “Unsettled with plenty of rain” states the Cheltenham website.

Current Going Saturday 9th - Good to soft, soft in places subject to rain.

Two parts to the forecast, the rain for next few days for the going and an update on Monday for day by day conditions for spectators.

from Netweather Extra

As an overview, you can see Monday looks dry, Tuesday wet and at the moment Wednesday and Thursday much drier.

Rain is already on its way for tonight, Saturday night. The Netweather radar shows the current rain, you can add on temperatures, lightning, switch to precipitation type which will show sleet and snowfall along with the rain. Click on the image for the up-to-date web page.

There will be a few hours of rain overnight, 10-15mm, clearing by Sunday morning with just the odd shower on Sunday. Sunday will be blustery with some drying in the brisk westerly wind. The showers turn wintry later in the day with much colder air across the UK and the temperatures fall to zero on Sunday night.

Monday is milder, up to 11C with shelter for Cheltenham from the showers blowing in from the west. This allows a drier spell.

However, during Monday night there will be quite wild conditions for a time as a band of heavy rain and strong winds marches right across the UK linked to a low pressure away to the NW.

The current forecast takes the high gusts and strong winds through by 8am and the frontal band of heavy rain by midday, but these timings could change.

After that, it is drier but really windy for the middle of the week. To the point, there might be issues for the courses and visitors later Tuesday or on Wednesday. Different forecast models take the low pressure through at different times. Certainly, hats will need to be held onto.

Champions Day – early rain, cold
Ladies Day- windy
St Patrick’s Thursday – drier
Gold Cup Day- chance of rain later.

Forecast for week ahead
