Enjoy the warm Wednesday but a stormy Friday threatens

A warm Wednesday with temperatures widely into the 20s Celsius. Sunny too. Storm Callum for Friday, western Britain and Ireland

The UK is in for a warm Wednesday with temperatures the length of the country up into the low twenties. There will be sunshine, once the low cloud, mist and fog disappear so a lovely middle of the week. The rain has finally cleared from western Scotland after 3 days with landslides and flooding. Next on the horizon will be a deep low pressure #StormCallum, whirling in for Friday morning rush hour. This will bring more western rain but also strong winds, gales and gusts around 80mph. This could bring travel disruption but should not affect SE Britain. A wild Friday to come, stormy in the far NW.

Overnight the band of heavy and continuous rain in the far NW has finally cleared away over the Western Isles. This left the UK in warm air; most areas are dry but with low cloud and mist about. There have been some lovely sunrises this morning, pink/orange skies with low lying fog

Yesterday temperatures rose to 21.8C in London and 20.2C in Cardiff. There has been over 200mm of rain in Highland Scotland Sunday through til Tuesday. Oban was flooded and the A83 had another landslide.

Today will still be blustery as the SE winds pickup and break up the clouds. Sunshine takes over and it will be a lovely day, not bad for the 10th of October. Scotland should see 20 or 21C, Northern Ireland around 19C. Wales more widely into the low 20sC and 19 to 23C across England although the breeze off the North Sea will make it feel a bit cooler here.

Very mild tonight for southern Britain with temperatures around 15 or 16C. Medium level cloud will bring a few showery outbreaks in from the SW during the evening and overnight, so not a completely dry picture. That first showery band will extend from London across to Wales and Northern Ireland as the SE winds keep going. By dawn, the band will have moved over northern England and SW Scotland and pepped up a bit so some heavier rain here and it moves northwards across Scotland. A second band, a cold front moves in during Thursday morning bringing more showery rain as the winds freshen. Ahead of this, it will be warm again. Low 20s C for eastern England but cooler and fresher for SW Britain and Northern Ireland as the front goes through.

Met Eireann advisory

A spell of wet and very windy, possibly stormy weather is expected on Thursday night/ Friday morning as a deep depression tracks Northwards to the West of Ireland. There is the risk of damaging gusts, especially along the West and Northwest coast.
There is the also the risk of coastal flooding due to high tides and surge.

There are already yellow and amber wind warnings and severe weather warnings out. From Met Eireann Thursday night onwards and the UK Met Office Friday for wind and Saturday for rain.

The cold front clears off into the North Sea on Thursday night, and temperatures dip, then rain from the deep low pressure heads in, covering all of Ireland and western Britain by Friday dawn. It looks very wet for Wales, SW England, Cumbria and SW Scotland with a fair amount of rain for the rest of western Britain and Dublin.

It is the winds on Friday which are also causing concerns, hitting Kerry and Cork around midnight. By dawn on Friday there will be severe gales through the Irish Sea and the North Channel, so ferry services are likely to be affected. Through the morning the stormy weather will affect Northern Ireland and western Scotland, particularly the Western Isles. Friday looks wild here as the October holidays start. The SE Winds will veer to the SW and continue to batter the Outer Hebrides well into the afternoon.

As that area of low pressure clears another bout of wet and blustery weather heads up from the SW and a second low brings even more rain, strong winds and another blast of high gusts to the west, not quite as bad as on Friday. It remains warm on Saturday for SE Britain, again up into the 20s C. Such contrasts across the UK.
