It’s been a glorious start to the Bank Holiday Weekend for most, with unbroken sunshine for many and the fine conditions will continue for most today and again tomorrow, though there will a few exceptions in the far west and northwest – where there will be cloud or sea fog. The fine and warm weather will continue in the east on Tuesday, but Wednesday onwards will turn cooler, breezy and more changeable from the west across all parts, with showers or rain at times.

Today

It’s a dry, sunny and fresh start to Sunday morning for most, though like the last couple of days there is some fog patches affecting places in the west, but this will burn back to the coasts. There is a fair bit of cloud around too across parts of Scotland, but away from NW Scotland, where we will hang on to thicker cloud and some patchy drizzle or light rain, the cloud will tend to break up through the morning to bring more in the way of sunshine.

So, for most today, it will be another fine, sunny and warm day – some low cloud and sea fog affecting some Irish Sea coasts and Atlantic coasts of SW England and also thicker cloud and cool breeze bringing some patchy light rain to NW Scotland and the Northern Isles.

With light winds, temperatures reaching the 20s centigrade quite widely across England and Wales, perhaps 23-25C across southern counties of England – where we saw yesterday’s highest temperatures too. Across Scotland and N. Ireland reaching 15-19C, a cooler 10-11C under the cloudy skies across the far north.

UV levels will be high today across England and Wales, so ensure you are wearing adequate sun screen if outside. Pollen levels are likely to be moderate or high widely too.

Tonight

A fine and warm end to the day for most, though breezy with some outbreaks of rain affecting the far northwest of Scotland – which will tend to spread across the Northern Isles overnight. Otherwise, most areas will have a dry night with clear spells, though fog lurking close to western coasts will spread inland across the far west.

Bank Holiday Monday

Any early fog across the far west will soon disperse and for most the morning dawning dry and sunny which will set us up for glorious Bank Holiday Monday, with plenty of sunshine and even warmer then today. Temperatures reaching even higher across the south – where we could see 26-27C across SE England, which will beat the previous record high for the early May Bank Holiday. Temperatures reaching the low to mid-twenties across the rest of England and Wales, across southern Scotland and Northern Ireland reaching the mid-high teens, low teens further north – where it will be cloudier with the odd shower. Sea fog may affect western coasts and also along North Sea coasts.

Tuesday

Tuesday will see a change across the west, as cold front moves in off the Atlantic, bringing thicker cloud and outbreaks of rain across Scotland, N. Ireland and eventually Wales, perhaps preceded by a few showers across central and northeastern areas. High pressure hanging across eastern and much southern England, bringing another fine, warm and sunny day here. Perhaps reaching 26C across the southeast.

Wednesday to Friday

A weakening cold front clearing east Tuesday night will usher in cooler conditions for all on Wednesday, a more active Atlantic frontal system moving across the west will bring thickening cloud with outbreaks of locally heavy rain across the west, however eastern areas of England should stay dry and fine with some sunshine.

Cool, changeable and breezy for the rest of the week, sunshine and showers for Thursday, though southern parts perhaps escaping the showers. Friday seeing thicker cloud and more general rain spreading east across all areas.
