Mostly Benign For Next Few Days, But Weekend Turning Unsettled & Colder

We will see something of a north-south split in the weather today, with weather fronts bringing cloud and outbreaks of rain in the north, while southern areas see dry weather with some sunshine. The rain will clear northern parts by Thursday to leave a mostly dry end to the week, with some sunny spells in places, though often cloudy and we are likely to some fog develop tonight in the south. Then we will see a change on Saturday, with a spell of heavy rain across the south during the morning, before a colder, brighter but showery northwesterly flow sweeps down across all areas for the rest of Saturday and through Sunday.

Today

For now, a slow-moving weather front is bringing cloudy skies with heavy and persistent rain across Northern Ireland and SW Scotland, brighter across northern Scotland. Much of England and Wales is dry to start Wednesday, with some brightness coming through, though cloudy for some and misty or foggy for others.

Any early mist and fog should lift and cloud should break up to bring more in the way of sunshine across much of England and Wales than we saw yesterday. Further north, a band of cloud and rain will continue to affect Northern Ireland and southern Scotland for much of the day, slowly slipping south into the far north of England. Brighter with some showers across northern Scotland.

Temperatures reaching 12-14C generally, perhaps as high as 15-16C across SE England, so quite warm for early November. Winds generally light across England and Wales, a brisk westerly breeze across Scotland.

Tonight

The weather front across southern Scotland and Northern Ireland eventually getting a move on southwards, but weakening, so rain turning lighter and more patchy as the front clears south into northern England. Clearer skies following to the north and also to south of the front across southern England and Wales, allowing mist and fog to form in places.

Thursday

Early mist and fog clearing southern areas, then a weak front moving south across southern areas of England and Wales during the morning, bringing cloudier skies and the odd spot of rain – which may linger into the afternoon. Brighter or sunnier conditions across spreading down across northern areas. A cooler day all round with the flow from the north, temperatures reaching 8-11C across the north, 12-14C across the south.

Friday

A fairly quiet day on Friday, with a fair amount of cloud and some sunny spells coming through. Most areas dry but we will see a weather front arrive across the far northwest, bringing some rain to Northern Ireland and western Scotland. Milder again, temperatures ranging from 10C in the north to 15C in the south.

Heavy rain developing and pushing east Friday night into Saturday morning

Saturday

As we go through Friday night, weather fronts moving in from the west will develop a wave which will bring a spell of heavy rain across England and Wales as it sweeps eastwards overnight. The rain clearing southern areas Saturday morning, following by colder but sunnier conditions from the northwest, though with some blustery showers towards northern and western coasts, turning wintry over Scottish hills. It should remain dry but chilly Saturday night away from northern and western coastal areas for those watching firework displays.

Sunday

After perhaps a frosty start in the north, Sunday’s looking mostly dry and bright or sunny, though still some showers around northern and western coasts. On the cool side, with temperatures in single figures away from the far south and southeast.
