Much of England & Wales staying dry and fine today, tomorrow and through the Bank Holiday Weekend. Risk of showers or occasional rain for Scotland & N. Ireland.
The return of summer warmth earlier this week was a rather brief appearance, but Weybourne in Norfolk managed to record the hottest day of the month so far yesterday, reaching 25.6C. However the warmth and humidity surging north and an active cold front sweeping in from the west triggered some dramatic thundery downpours across northern England, which lead to some flash-flooding in West and North Yorkshire, with streets turned into torrents in Scarborough and Leeds.

The cold front cleared the east coast in the afternoon, taking away the muggy air with it to leave a slightly cooler and certainly fresher feel for most of us last night. The rest of the week will see something calmer, with sunshine and showers across the north and drier sunnier weather in the south. Then as we head into the Bank Holiday Weekend, it’s looking like a NW-SE split – with showers or longer spells of rain for Scotland, N. Ireland and perhaps NW England, while the rest of England and Wales remain mostly dry and sunny, while becoming warmer too.
For now, it’s a fine start across much of southern, central and eastern England along with south Wales – with plenty of dry and sunny weather here this morning, any mist and fog patches should soon clear away. More in the way of cloud with a chance of catching a shower this morning across western coasts of Devon and Cornwall along with west Wales and across NW England blowing in from the Irish Sea. Then heading further north and northwest, showers becoming more frequent for N. Ireland and western Scotland this morning. Eastern Scotland staying largely dry and bright or sunny, but some persistent rain lingering through the morning across the Northern Isles – which may linger all day.
Little change through the afternoon, showers continuing to push in across N.Ireland and western Scotland through the day, some of which will be on the heavy side, a few of these filtering across to NE Scotland but much of eastern Scotland staying dry. A few showers for NW England and perhaps north Wales, but the rest of England and Wales remaining mostly dry with sunny spells.
A fresher feel for all today in a westerly breeze, but feeling pleasant in the sun with temperatures reaching 17-19C widely, perhaps 20-22C across SE England and East Anglia.
A sunny evening across England, Wales and eastern Scotland will lead to into a mostly dry night with clear spells. Western Scotland and N. Ireland will see further showers or longer spells of rain and breezy here too.
Further showers and breezy across N. Ireland and western Scotland on Friday, perhaps merging into longer spells of rain. Perhaps a few showers for NW England too, but much of eastern Scotland, England and Wales seeing another mostly dry day with sunny spells and with lighter winds in the south it will feel quite warm too. Highs of 16-18C across Scotland and N. Ireland, 19-22C for England and Wales, perhaps 23-25C across SE England and East Anglia.

Showers perhaps affecting the whole of Scotland on Saturday, locally heavy with hail and thunder. Drier and sunnier than recent days for N. Ireland, while most of England and Wales should enjoy a dry day with lighter winds and warm sunshine. Temperatures reaching 17-20C across the north, 21-25C across the south.
Slight risk of some thundery showers clipping SE England Saturday night, otherwise much of England and Wales again dry and bright or sunny on Sunday. Cloudy with outbreaks of rain for Scotland and N. Ireland – where it will be breezier. Temperatures similar to Saturday, highs of high teens in the north to low and mid-twenties in the south.
Bank Holiday Monday (England, Wales and N. Ireland) a little uncertain at this range, but further rain, perhaps heavy, spreading off the Atlantic across Scotland and N. Ireland during the day and maybe edging down across northern England and north Wales too in the afternoon/evening. To the south staying mostly dry and bright or sunny.
