SHOCK NEWS - The Freezing Winter Headlines Are Earlier This Year

The freezing winter headlines are back again - it's an annual event.

This time of the year you can count on a few things happening, the leaves start to change, the Atlantic sends low pressures our way, the nights turn a little chilly, and almost like clockwork - the Daily Express run their annual freezing winter headline.

It's like night follows day, the summer heatwave headlines end and at some point in the Autumn the first 'SHOCK Weather Warning, Coldest Winter For x years' type headline pops up. This year we are a bit earlier than recent years, maybe something to do with the hot weather we've seen this month.

Here they are in all of their glory:

2012

2012

2013

2013

2014

2014

2015

And finally, the 2016 edition - published over the weekend

How did these Winter's compare with the headlines?

Winter 2015/16 was the third warmest since 1910, Winter 2014/15 was very close to average, Winter 2013/14 was the fifth warmest since 1910 (and the stormiest winter on record), and Winter 2012/13 was just slightly colder than average. We await the Winter of 2016/17, but one thing is for sure, and that's that it's way too early for any realistic predictions at this stage.

So the moral of the tale is that you really shouldn't believe the headlines, and if you know someone who does - please point them at this article!
