Is there going to be a Heatwave this week?

May has been officially 'cool', at times 'ruddy cold'. June is offering something more like summer. It looks like there will be a shift away from the cool Atlantic flow and the UK is finally going to share in some of the continental warmth. Shorts at the ready!

Definitely Warmer but Heatwave?

May 2015 has been officially cool. Sunday 31st made you feel you need to be wearing a hat and thermals in that wind. With June starting this week bringing the beginning of meteorological summer, Yes it is going to warm up. And June looks like it could be a warm month, hoorah!

Heatwave?
There isn’t an officially definition of Heatwave in the UK. It conjures up images of water shortages, lengthy hot days with unbearable nights, people getting heatstroke and going to hospital. It is going to feel more like summer, and comparatively it will be a transformation.

Wait for it ...
Early June is going to bring some more cool, unsettled, windy weather but is from midweek when temperatures will start to lift in the SE with a peak this week on Friday. 21C is 70F

Friday, if you chopped Britain NW/SE, the SE half has the potential to be very warm into the mid-twenties Celsius, with some talk of high 20s Celsius.

Rest of June?

Beyond Friday, it looks like England and Wales, especially central/southern Britain could hold onto the warmer for a good few days, so it will feel like summer has arrived. Further north in Britain and for N.Ireland it looks more uncertain and often fading to near normal temperatures. So the south stays warm, average temps further north to end the week. Sunday warms up everywhere and then the early charts for next week (8th onwards) look widely very warm, even hot.

The highest temperatures we’ve see already this year were back in April when Kent saw 25.6C mid month. Scotland and N.Ireland saw over 22.6 and 20.1 C respectively on the 23rd and Wales saw over 21C on the 11th. May has just been rubbish, so Thursday/Friday could be a real change for some leading to a proper warm spell next week (or maybe the week we’ll remember as 'Summer 2015')

Pollen levels have been low this weekend, in the cooler, unsettled, windy weather. As grass season starts in earnest and with this June warmth, levels will be rising. Check out how the weather affects pollen here as you start to sneeze
