After a sunnier Wednesday for many areas, cloud returns tonight, with patchy showers for some. And currently it looks like the eclipse will be battling cloudy skies over large swathes of the UK on Friday before it brightens again for the weekend.
After last nights aurora show, tonight will see a front arrive with cloud and patchy rain for Scotland spoiling any potential view as the weaker geomagnetic storm levels won't reach as far south as we saw yesterday, so keen spotters will need to hope for a sightings in N Ireland and the south of Scotland.
Cloud returns for both the north and south east of the UK tomorrow, again with some patchy showers at times, but in between there will be plenty of breaks in the cloud and bright spells to enjoy.
Then we are heading toward Thursday night and the Supermoon, once again cloud will spoil the view for the northern half of the UK and eastern areas, but Wales, central and south western regions should have a decent view at first.
A weak weather front will push south overnight, bringing cloud as it goes, and it's this that is making it hard to forecast who might get a decent view of the partial eclipse on Friday morning - as it stands Wales, the south west and the midlands are best placed, and Jo will be back with a detailed update tomorrow.
The cloud will break up as we head into the weekend, so some decent bright spells again, but sadly a little too late for widespread eclipse viewing.
