Thursday night and early Friday sees storm 1 hitting the UK with widespread gales and storm force winds in the far north. Later Friday into Saturday, storm 2 arrives bringing a second wild bout to start the weekend

Looking at the Netweather Wind gusts sequence for tonight into the weekend, you can see a swathe of red moving across much of the UK on Thursday night. Red shows gusts of wind of 60 to 80mph. The pink and white area in the north shows even more ferocious winds of over 90mph, possibly 100mph whisking across the far north of Scotland.

Then a slight lull in the middle of Friday before the next area of red appears from the SW, more widespread gales with gusts of 60mph and again the risk of gusts over 80mph for Shetland.
