Becoming Brighter

Its been a wet night in many areas and a wet 24 hours with some spots in Cumbria receiving over 50mm and over 35mm across parts of Wales and SW England. There is still some drizzle or light rain around this morning and it will be a cloudy morning in many areas. However its a bright, frosty and icy start across Northern Ireland, western and northern parts of Scotland and much of the UK will become dry with brighter conditions developing from the west, with some sunny spells developing especially in the west. It will be generally mild across the southern half of the UK with temperatures reaching 7-8 °C, chillier from the north Midlands northwards where there will be a brisk north or northwesterly wind, with temperatures reaching 5-6 °C here. Tonight, cloud will thicken from the west with outbreaks of occasionally heavy rain with a strong southwesterly wind spreading east across all parts of the UK overnight after a dry start across eastern areas, snow likely over higher ground of northern Scotland. For Wednesday, a wet start for many areas with snow over the Highlands, it will turn brighter and more showery across Scotland, Northern Ireland and the far north of England, however cloud and rain will persist across much of central and southern England and much of Wales, with some heavy bursts at times especially towards the south and southwest. It will be windy in the south at first but easing later and becoming rather mild despite the rain with a maximum temperature of 13 °C across the far south. For Thursday and Friday, it will remain mild and unsettled with further spells of wet and windy weather, more general cloud and rain is likely over England and Wales, while Scotland and Northern Ireland will perhaps experience brighter but showery conditions. A look ahead at the weekend, continuing mild with further spells of wet and windy weather spreading east.
