Weekend Weather: Not as hot but still strong sunshine with showers from the west

Weekend weather: Fine for many but with showers for western Britain and Northern Ireland. Cooler by night for camping and fine for Armed Forces Day, Ed Sheeran and the Royal Highland Show.

This weekend won’t be as hot as it has been recently but there will still be plenty of warm, strong June sunshine allowing temperatures to reach the high teens and low 20s Celsius. It will feel fresher for England and Wales than of late and cool everywhere by night.

A low pressure will be anchored to the north of Ireland and this will bring showers. The breeze will be from the south or southwest and add to the fresher feel to things for western and southern coasts. Quite a change from mid-week for inland parts of southern Britain and the Midlands. A look at the forecast for campers, Ed Sheeran at Wembley, Armed Forces Day and the Royal Highland Show.

The cooler, fresher conditions follow a cold front and the flow behind this originates in the far north, pulled down and then across Ireland and the UK. Showers continue to rotate around the low pressure centre which means there is more chance of seeing one for Northern Ireland and western Scotland, for Wales and NW plus SW England. There will be bands of the showers and clusters which manage to work their way further inland but eastern Britain will be relatively sheltered and see more fine, dry and sunny weather over the weekend.

Weekend rain UK

The air temperatures will be subdued on Sunday for west coast Wales, the south coast of Cornwall and Devon and for Irish Sea coasts with more of a breeze and this fresher flow. We do still have high pollen levels and moderate to high UV in the sunny spells.

This weekend the weather will feel fresher for Glastonbury after the sunshine and high 20sC but also not be so lively as on Thursday when there is a risk of heavy downpours even a thunderstorm. Still worth slapping on the sunscreen but it won’t be as hot. Fine with sunny spells and just a few passing showers.

For the Royal Highland Show near Edinburgh, there looks to be a good deal of fair bright weather over the next few days. The weekend air will be a bit fresher but away from the marquees, still some warm sunshine. There will be clusters of heavy showers working their way northwards on Thursday night and during Friday day but we’ll have to wait til nearer the time to see their progress which could stay to the east.

Royal Highland Show

Fine weather at the Royal Highland Centre, EH28 on Weds 22nd as preparations continue before the Show.

There are lots of events for Armed Forces Day this weekend. The main event will be on Saturday 25th , hosted by Scarborough Borough Council

“The National Event promises to be an action-packed day featuring the very best of the Armed Forces. Scarborough’s famed South Bay will play host to military parades, numerous musical performances, aerial flypasts and much, much more. “

Saturday looks to be fine and dry with warm sunny spells, a light southerly wind and temperatures up to 22C. On Friday there is the risk of heavy, even thundery showers for Yorkshire but these will be gone by Saturday. The weather forecast looks ideal.

Ed Sheeran plays Wembley Stadium on Saturday and the weather is looking fine and dry. Also, more comfortable after the recent heat, London will be into the fresher air with evening sunshine and temperatures still around 21C

If you are camping this weekend, the Friday downpours will ease but then it’s the westerly flow of showers which keep some parts unsettled. The air will be cooler so by night, be prepared for temperatures inland well down into single figures. More comfortable in a tent but you’ll need a jumper if sitting about after dark.
