If someone was visiting the UK end of February/ early March, what would your answer be to the question “What’s the weather like at this time of year?
The British obsession with the weather is said to be fuelled by its changeable nature, from warm to cold, sunny to rainy even with snow from morning to afternoon. Yet at this time of year, as photos pop up on Facebook or your phone "This time last year or two years ago", you might be reminded of how varied it can be.
This February has been the wettest on record and the fifth wettest UK month overall.

Last February was the warmest on record with the first time that over 20C had been recorded in the UK winter. Winter being the months of December, January and February meteorologically speaking. High pressure brought sunshine, fine weather light winds and building warmth. I was just reminded of it as I stood in a similar spot today for the Video forecast and heard a skylark again. This year I was in my winter coat and thermal top.

Two years ago, yes two, it was the Beast from the East with all that snow. Instead of the NHS and Public Health preparing for COVID19 they were getting ready for bitter cold, injuries from ice falls and people suffering in the ongoing low temperatures.
Weekend
This coming weekend there will be a spell of rain and blustery winds as an Atlantic low moves near to Iceland. Not a storm but still windy for Saturday evening, with gales for western coasts. Hopefully, most of the heavy rain will pass by during Saturday night after a fair, mild day. River levels are now coming down after the stormy downpours in February. There are still flood warnings so any extra rain is not needed. Temperatures into double figures after some chilly, frosty starts.
