That is quite an embedded thunderstorm on that north Norfolk coast. If it can survive then it would likely go out to sea and come back in around the east coast of the Humber. The band seems to fizzle as it heads towards Derby though for some reason.

Thundery rain?

I'm keeping a close eye on that North Sea lightning.

lm just curious, when is this "thundery" weather due to pass? ld much prefer settled weather now to be honest.. getting kinda tired of it :/

admittedly lm not a fan of storms close to home (lost a few computers to strikes which doesnt help as l need them to do my job) plus pets start damaging the place when they hear loud bangs :( that being said when are we expecting a lenfthy settled peroid?

Personally im not expecting much until this band of rain clears. I then expect storms to break out a few hrs after the band of cloud has cleared. This is why I don't expect much in the way of storms for the W/SW. These areas are more at risk from just heavy downpours.

BBC forecast has pretty much just said the same, thundery element seems reserved for SE England/East Anglia.Standard downpours for other folk.Sun out here in London now.

I can see black clouds approaching from over the wash fingers crossed :-)

If it were dark you would probably be seeing flashes now out to sea.

I can see why East might be better later on, this rain isn't going to clear here for some time yet.

Waiting to see if any family in Lowestoft or Yarmouth have any thunder this morning but no ones said anything yet.

THERE IS A RISK OF THUNDERSTORMS FORECAST

post-1052-0-25858000-1400936216_thumb.pn

Synopsis

Upper low/trough remains slow moving towards SW/W UK during Saturday, a shortwave trough/500mb cold pool on the forward side of the upper low will shift northeast from France towards eastern England during Saturday.  A surface low will remain slow moving across SW UK, with an unstable airmass moving north across England and Wales following occluded front also spreading rain north.

... CENTRAL, SOUTHERN AND EASTERN ENGLAND , E WALES and IRELAND ...

Mass of morning rainfall along occluded front arcing north across England and Wales will become slow-moving across N England and west Wales, but brighter skies will follow the rain from the south across central, southern and eastern England through the morning and into the afternoon  ... this airmass following the rainfall will become increasingly unstable to surface heating, as low to mid level lapse rates steepen with arrival of shortwave trough and its associated 500mb cold pool. GFS indicates 300-700 j/kg CAPE into the afternoon, which will support scattered thunderstorms. Vertical shear will be rather weak, so no severe weather is anticipated, however, storms may produce hail, gusty winds, and localised flooding.

Sadly the N Norfolk storm is now dying out over the N Sea off the Lincs coast so won't make it it here although it was on a collision course. Still much more active today than I thought it would be for sure.

Cool and overcast here with a stunning temp of 11.9°C and 90% humidity. All we need really is some energy but that is in short supply at the mo.

After a vile start, the sun has come out quite nicely here. Hoping to see the first showers pop up soon.

Buy surge protectors for your PC equipment to stop any lightning damage, and secondly the pets damaged the house due to loud noises? Holy Moly do you keep elephants indoors or something, my dog just goes and lays under the coffee table and goes to sleep.

On another note, been raining heavily on and off since I woke around 8am. Cloud cover is becoming lighter and looks like the sun will be out pretty soon. Atmosphere feels ripe for a storm like it did on Thursday, so just waiting for the fireworks to get started :D

surge protectors do not protect against lightning strikes. yes surge protectors protect against surges and voltage spikes but lightning strikes on a phone line/telegraph pole especially if its close having all the surge protectors in the world wont help as the burst of current would be significantly different, in fact lve had it happen before :/

as for the pets lol, loud bangs and noises start them off barking which eventually turns into tail wagging and nipping at window sills and curtains like its a game.. our draft excluder bit the bust last november bonfire night :/

Another flash and deep rumble more or less straight away.....looks to be heading North West, perhaps towards Hull. Monsoon here now.

Think that convective stuff may well be elevated and part of the warm upper sector dragged in off the continent.
