All schools and non essential services will close tommorow with swansea council advising people to stay home. The worst of the winds look to be over by noon here.

Growing concern that the Met might be missing a swathe of stronger winds across the midlands as Eunice pulls away. AROME showing the area where stronger gusts may occur and I do believe this needs watching with the upcoming runs ..

Isn't this precisely when a sting jet would form, behind the low?

I was assuming it was because of being in the leeward side of Dartmoor, but then i checked places like Okehampton for comparison and they are not that much worse.  Bude seems to top out at 74mph, and that is about as exposed as you will get.  I just assume there are slightly different calculations being made for the value, or different heights maybe e.g 2m vs 10m

Could be, it's very odd, no wonder people get confused, there's too many different models and each weather organisations use

That may well be the case, but it would be utterly pointless by that stage.

Having lived in Stoke-on-Trent for the past 6 years, I’ve learned that people ignore any risk of severe in this region.

we usually get away with most severe weather to be honest, so it's not surprising.

I'm gas too! Will need a match to light it but other than that ...! Just been out and taken the gazebo over the chickens down, tied lids to feed bins, brought our dustbins up to the house. Laid some stuff down. Other bits are loose but as I don't have a shed to put them in they will have to chance it!! Got batteries for battery candles, got a shopping list for local Tescos after school run, need matches and pillar candles if they have any ...!, some tinned food, could do with some more milk, battery pack for phone on charge. I think I am as prepared as I can be now.  Almost ...!

Watch out that the Yanks and the Germans don't block your gas feed!

Totally agree Nick but its still undergoing explosive cyclogenisis and probably its exit point has yet to be nailed

Crikey. The 12z ICON-EU is pretty shocking across most of southern Britain.

Schools in Wimborne have closed. Email states that this is because the Met office has changed the amber warning to red for Dorset.

Might travel to Burnham-on-sea to watch the waves crash against the sea defences. This could be a once in a while experience.

As the storm moves east, after it has pummelled southern areas, and is causing issues in the southeast, the UKV wants to cause problems in the northwest of England.. obviously this is a bit imby, and may not happen, but there is not much representation on here of the back edge effects for the northwest, and north Midlands. UKV, if you can trust its projections showing a swathe of winds approaching 85mph on the coast, and around 70-75mph down the 'Cheshire Gap', no doubt due to funnelling. It could of course be way off the mark, but the potential is there.

UKVFO.webp

BBC seems to think the area around the Cheshire Gap will have light rain and a fresh breeze tomorrow....!!!

When does the met office issue evening updates? When can we expect a change to warnings?

Wow Icon for SE, especially South London, East Sussex and Kent. The only with up  Mid 80s with a few mid 90s thrown in across the Downs.

Not sure when this chart updates but:

looking pretty nasty out there tomorrow afternoon round these parts - I think the black line could be a predicted sting jet?

I hope not, I'm right under that

There's a 100 mph showing there at Hartland Point, north Devon.

I think to state the obvious this is an evolving situation. The low looks menacing, anecdotally I would say more so looking at the fax outputs and current synoptics.

Nasty storm.
