Hopefully once the rain clears you lot on the south coast will have a much better lightning show on your hands!

I went out earlier and can’t see any flashes due to the cloud

Saw my first distant flash from Dymchurch and encouragingly a band of AcCas in the twilight - maybe chances for the far SE??

dummy question....

How do we tell the difference between a false strike and a real one on the lightning radar??? few random strikes on there in seemingly random places but not sure if they are genuine

Judging by the progress of the system, it looks like the bulk of the "severe" weather forecast (i.e. rain) will be over the west country, with a tendency to decrease to a few heavy showers from around Basingstoke eastwards.

An increasing slope of higher pressure and dryer airmasses to the east are going to knobble the system. We'll still get some, but not as much as the west by a long way.

My barometer flattened out about an hour ago and it's not doing the "bottoms dropped out of the barometer, Jim!" thing.   Hmph.  Enjoy the show, folks!

Hoping that nuisance residual cloud clears for you southerners. Second bout of electrical activity now established over Cherbourg and Channel Islands. Wish them storms had the same amount of energy that one East of Limoges has though!! Good grief that’s going mental.
