It's only 19:43 anyway, the juicer stuff was never supposed to present itself until around 22:00 right?

Does anyone know why the channel often does this? Elevated convection in theory shouldn’t be affected by cold water, but I’ve seen elevated storms die a death as soon as they dip their toes in.

storms seem to have zero issue exploding to life in the North Sea so what is the issue with that thin strip of water?

It’s the triple E csb - energy eating English Channel storm barrier

Going very dark over the Purbecks at the mo, sky looks like it could fire up any minute.

It’s just that outflow mess on the northern extent of the plume! That sort of precip never fires up.6B6561E2-CA14-4BAA-B2DA-B9B9A0471E66.thumb.jpeg.f2845d7d2217c13b90cff3c7b64bd5c6.jpeg

Remember lightning activity with elevated storms are also well under-captured on lightning detectors too.

Activity that is dying ahead of the storms in the channel are ahead of the high theta-w which is slowly moving northwards. Will improve as the evening goes on.

Saturday afternoon looks more interesting to me than tonight's threat. Depending on where the convergence line ends up sitting I could be seeing thunderstorms after thunderstorms. Some models have this convergence line further south, and some have it further north. Will be interesting just where the line ends up being.

It’s completely stratiform cloud in NW Kent at the moment, with it has to be said a cool but refreshing breeze. Are we saying it’s clearer down on the coast? Heading to Kent coast shortly

Had the sun all day here, still do, with an interesting looking sky.

Already some strikes near the UK already. I didn't think it was meant to pop off for another few hours so this could be promising.

Seems to be getting killed off as it’s getting halfway across the channel, and also noticing the energy being transferred further east now towards Caen/Le Havre (where most of the hail is now being contained). Thundery rain will be the probable outcome for most I will reiterate. Most models have kept the real juice the other side of the Channel (now being used up too). IOW East I would say stands the best chance now of any proper activity. Tomorrow if we can generate some diurnal heating could give a better chance of something more substantial, if the low doesn’t scuttle too Far East.

Has anybody got any good webcams to watch the storms coming across the channel?

I'm currently sat at the cliff top in Barton on sea, I have heard 2 very deep rumbles so far.

Hopefully it will make the crossing
