Radar at 1455hrs shows a line of cells from from just east of Taunton northwards to just to the west of Clevedon.

Some beefy showers here,  and I can hear thunder ⛈ from the storms further East

Lovely anvils visible miles to the NW/W now that the lower level cloud has cleared. Rather a sweaty 19.9c at the moment.

Classic case of the dog leg coastline killing of the storms for my area.

Plenty going on South and to the East of me though.

Cells have just reached Bristol and typically, as they pass over Bristol Airport, any electrical element to them completely disappears.  All I received in the end was a brief period of heavy rain!

Typical torrential downpours on the one evening I want to do a BBQ before the footie!

Too close to the coast of the Bristol channel.  10miles further in land and you're right in the thick of it.

Turning  out to be an okay evening here now, sunny spells and feeling warm.

Had enough rain to water the garden.

Finally stopped raining here, thunder still occasionally rumbling in the distance.

Looks like we have had in excess of 2 inches of rain.

More heavy showers heading toward my neck of neck of the woods - have the video cam ready in case anything gets interesting.

Just plain old rain now, not even that heavy.

Very disappointing again for my locale, but not surprising really,  as it seems to be the way things go these days.

Yep, same here - all the action seems to be around Exmoor and north of Taunton.

Just too close to the coast is our problem.

At least you heard thunder rather than seeing distant anvils for 5 hours!

Not really complaining though because it was an unexpected beautiful afternoon.

Sometimes weird stuff happens around here ... there was a waterspout last August, and a mini-twister this April (though could have been a dust devil). Could be some orographic effect related to the narrowing of the channel or the Black Mountains? Dunno.

Brewery workers double-checked their beer goggles when they spotted a tornado blowing up a storm outside their gates in Newport.

yep, orographics and temp differentials over the Bristol Channel. A proper micro-climate worthy of detailed study.
