I had to get out before the sun melted it all.

Some brilliant walking conditions this morning apart from the sheer depth of snow, almost a foot fell here last night and not a Met O warning in site. made for some good photographs though, altho

Heaviest single fall of snow for several years here and the heaviest in April since 1981.

Its hard not to be Jealous!!!

3 days ago those streamers  seemed to be forecast for Chorley area. They now seem to be hitting the South of the region.

    We’ll see

IMBY Just about scrapes into the updated warning area, but the good news is areas that could see a bit more substantial snow i.e. Saddleworth is within my scope of 'Lockdown' exercise in only going to places you can walk back from.  Longish walk...but still plausible.

Encouraging to see Met office showing some snow symbols for today and tomorrow, having shown bone dry for days..

The warning area tentatively close to here, and may well extend to cover us in update tomorrow morning.

Expecting snow flurries mainly through daylight hours, perhaps a very slight dusting from anything more substantive before dusk, main interest is later this evening and overnight and through tomorrow and Tuesday.

Needs something heavy to stick. Light snow doesn't help unless its nighttime in this set-up.

I can confirm my first snow flurry of the cold spell here. Encouraging that already, the showers are reaching here, even if extremely light.

I love the onset of an easterly. 🙂 The grey, leaden skies and hearing the wind rattle.  Watching the temp and dewpoint go lower and lower.

Wasn't really paying much attention to the amount of rain we got yesterday. The garden is still standing in water this morning, I've also noticed there were numerous roads locally that were flooded by mid afternoon yesterday. Can only assume its a topping up process and the groundwater levels must be really high. So yes you are right, maybe this dry week or 2 is coming at the right time. At least I can get out for a good walk again today 🙂

Picked up 5.9 mm rain from the gauge at 9am ths morning. Mostly from yesterday's morning rain.

Rained every day so far this month, total currently 63.6 mm.

Jany 2021 was the wettest Jany since we started daily readings in 1969.

We deserve a long dry spell.

There is that distinct easterly airstream look about things, snow flurries in the air, nothing substantive but springing out of nowhere, this bodes very well indeed for possibly homegrown snow showers popping out of nowhere as convection has not kicked in yet.

Light snow shower, instantly tried to settle.
considering the apps yesterday had me down for nothing today, I class this as a little upgrade.

The radar has that “easterly” look about it. Most of NE England covered in light blue with little moderate echoes dotted about. Very often in these spells it snows lightly for extremely long durations, interspersed by more moderate bursts.
