It looks like we will get some historically significant cold around Easter if the runs verify.

The thing is although it is assumed it'll be short lived, it might not be quite as short lived as we think with some runs seeking to extend or 're-load' the cold.

The other thing is this is going to be most noticeable at night when the temperatures plummet well below 0C inland particularly during nocturnal snow cover.

Due to the the time of year though it's unlikely we will see temperature that far below 10C in the day if the sun shines although when the showers come along it could drop 5-8C quickly .

We are definitely all at risk of snow though should this cold spell verify.

Re: nature being damaged... The cold will set it back maybe but it won't be that impactful.. we do live in a cold area of the world and native nature has adapted to deal with that.

What it will hit is horticulture and agriculture where we are dealing with none native plants from warmer climates, and crops from warmer climates.

But yes this Easter will likely stand out in the historical record.

Was planning my stepsons move back from Derby on Saturday.... Friday might be better.

The route takes me through Buxton and onto the A515. Thats a very high route and very bleak. Definitely a place to get stuck.

I've been for a 5 mile jog around town and thinking to myself its hard to believe that in less than 48hrs from now it's going to feel more like -8'c, overcast, and with the good chance of snow. Nature has provided a few subtle clues the past fortnight in having a late Spring lambing season, some Daffodils not wanting to fully-flower just yet, and early wild-Berries sprouting unusually early.

Well after another few decent days of nice weather, could it actually be that we get some return of winter, I'm skeptical to whether we will see any snow, but could be the case.

Morning

Can someone remind the computer models that BST starts on Sunday what a vile outlook for the Easter weekend with low single temperatures and snow showers courtesy of a potent Northerly wind this has been a consistent theme over the last few days on both the GFS and ECM and the former suggests this could be a cold spell and not a cold snap what a difference from 12 months ago when most were in there gardens with the first BBQ been lit looking much like this Easter the kids will be playing in the snow rather than cooling down with ice cream.

Looks like this Friday will see snow showers down to 200m before turning milder 18c possible Tuesday before it all goes down hill towards the Easter weekend.

@Day 10 @CreweCold thoughts??

RE Easter: Watered and Down spring to mind by the time we get to t zero.

The hills may get something but I'd rather have the sun now...

Another drab day here, no sunshine, had nothing all week.

Tomorrow could bring a few snowflakes in the air in the evening, expect the fells to have a dusting at least come Saturday may be something more substantive.

A possible wintry Saturday morning for some of us but it doesn't last, could be very mild early next week with temps up to 15 or 16C in favoured spots in the region. And then signs of a colder than average start to April. Very topsy turvy , the weather is not without interest. Better than the borefest we've had lately.

Sunny ☀️ day on the whole some clouds... chilly breeze... useable day... husband walking without crutches after 8 weeks after second hip op ?? not looking for snow but if hills are white come Saturday morning will look pretty... a while away in weather terms but Easter looking cold.. I’ll have to put pots back if it gets that cold...

Not had a look at the charts until today.

Weatherwise some will be caught with their "pants down"

Chilly.

Drove from Bacup to Todmorden at 0930 and it was 2oC and sleeting. On my return temp had risen to 3oC and the sun was coming out!

I don't think 18C is out of the question for Tuesday now. It should feel nice with sunshine too. Looks a case of make the most of it though as it turns colder again into April.

Not a bad day in the end after this mornings torrential downpours.

a short lived heavier shower mid afternoon with a bit of sleet mixed in but at 7c no chance of snow although maybe something a bit more wintry overnight.

I’m certainly not wanting to open the curtains to a covering of wet snow in the morning though but it’s still only March and not out of the question.

Problem is that we’ve been spoilt with decent weather over the last couple of springs and it looks like this year may be bringing us back down to earth with a bit of a bump.

Thought we would be done for winter with Airport TAFS but both LPL and MAN airport indicating overnight snow showers.
