The best thing about this evening's weather is that it's still cold enough to chill the beer.

Just light sleet. PPN intensity isn't there with the heavier stuff going south of here. Looking good on the opposite side of the Pentlands!

it's weird isn't it. For a few years after we moved here (in 2010) there was an endless procession of storms. We lost power at least every other week, and it got so bad that Scottish Power upgraded the line to make it more resilient. It worked a treat, power cuts rare now but then the storms stopped. The rendering on the house was blown off in Jan 2012, and our highest mean speed was recorded in May 2011!

Just home from work and well what a drive home, main roads were horrendous close to home, no gritter in sight likely because there was no warnings in place, didn't expect it quite like this tonight so added bonus, definitely had a lot of snowfalls this winter, nothing spectacularly deep but many respectable falls

Have woke to it snowing and a covering did not expect that ans it is still snowing, actually looks to be lying easier than any fall this season but not been out to check it. Still only just covers the grass but third proper fall of snow... Another hour might actually mean the sledge could come out.... Should I check radar or just keep looking out the window

A nice unexpected covering here this  morning, about 1-1/2" new stuff on top of the existing covering from last Thursday!

Was quite the opposite here. Started as sleety rain then when those yellows and oranges came through on radar dinner flakes started to mix in which became all mostly snow for a good 10 minutes or so but just about scraped a dusting here.

Weird. It was raining here when I peered out the window at 5am and it certainly doesn't look any different out there now. Well...other than a lot wetter than it was last night. 1.7C.

I looked at radar for last while and looked like you had quite a heavy band go over so assumed you would have had a nice little fall, the marginality of this winter and different results small distances apart has been quite a feature. I'm guessing the heavy band later today will be rain for most of us. Further marginal chances later this week and weekend so maybe more to come for some but still no sign of a deep cold but the winter continues as winter in Scotland.

Think I will keep track now

Think you might be surprised what happens this afternoon. Looking at the 0C isotherm level this morning compared to later it’s going to be a good 2-300 m lower later on.

Mrs had been up at 5am and she said that it had been Snawing quite heavy at that time!

Sadly but not unexpectedly it was sleety pish last night and with the wind turning easterly I expect plenty of the same today - in fact simple rain is the most likely outcome! 

Always nice to read surprise snow reports though!

Got up and looked out the window to a couple of cms which is pretty good for me! 

This winter is slowly getting there and is certainly much better than pretty much everything in the past 6-8 years apart from BFTE

Morning all! Temp currently hovering around the 0.9c mark, calm, dry and cloudy. Lovely pink sky away to the north east. No further snow since Saturday and am not expecting any. that way I won't be disappointed! Ventured out to Portree yesterday. Road at the back of my house was like sheet glass. Main road better but there was still a bit of snow lying so it was a very slow drive for me. Idiots were overtaking in conditions like that!  Had a wee peek at the charts earlier and saw this for Feb 10th. Yes, I know it's a while away, so what's the betting of it actually coming off? Anyone care to open a book?

Thirthy third air frost at -0.4C in the last 90 minutes. Splattering of snow settled on everything making the previous snow/ice grippy but everywhere else icy and slippy. Cannae win!

Morning all.

Had a couple of hefty snow showers between 1.30am/2am which deposited a centimeter or so which was nice to see.

Starting to thaw now though.   0.8c/0.4c/ESE/1010.6.

After frosty start last evening we had some light rain then it cleared and the frost came back so everything very icy again. Currently thin high cloud and -2c.

Well it was/is a chilly one here with an overnight low of -4.4C and it's still -3.1C even now (around 2C below the MetO forecast for 10am). There's not much of a wind but a sheet of thin high cloud is keeping the sun from getting out.

I'm not expecting anything much for here tonight as the main band seems to break up and dissipate before it gets this far NE on most forecasts. Might see a flurry though, or if good old XC weather is to be believed (which it rarely is), I might end up with a 5cm covering.

Rain is on here and again it is just freezing to the ground. Sheet ice out there again. Just had a gritter up the street for the first time in 2 years!

Funny that... gritters are like hens' teeth up our street but we've had a 3 axle job and the pavement gritter AND council guys on foot chucking stuff out the grit bins on bad bits.  We're being spoilt.  Perhaps someone's realised gritting is cheaper than dozens of broken legs in A&E.
