Wierdly warmed up to 2 degrees in Hexham and rained for a while now back at 1.3 degrees and sleet. Not sure whats going on. Missing a lot of potential snow here.

Am I missing something I thought the rain was forecast and it was only meant to start turning to snow later on tonight for most of the region?

Interestingly that depends on the model - gfs was really keen on snow here from 3pm, ukmo more near midnight

Still rain in Durham, a bit sleety. Radar says snow; GFS says snow. Not yet it ain't.

Not sure what it's like else where but for places around the Teesside area, my personal opinion is we'll be lucky to see any lying snow by tomorrow morning, it's soaking wet.

No looks like a lack of showers behind the front. Maybe the easterly will cause the unstable flow once we get the long fetch across the North Sea?

There won't be. Once it clears, we wait. Will not be instant North sea snow machine.

Fingers crossed, but I'm sure most models had this as much more wintry by now than it actually is. I'm willing it to turn, but having stood outside for 5 mins watching the security light, it really is just rain.

It's due to the winds strength picking up... bringing warmth of the sea.  Need to wait for the colder uppers later

Patience needed guys, the weather will do whatever the weather wants to do when it wants to do it, no matter what the best supercomputers in the world predict.

The main low is a little slower sinking through France that forecast which is holding things up slightly but its important to remember that all of the key pieces are still in place and heading in the right direction to establish a bitter easterly flow.

That's exactly what will cause the showers.  The front will pull south dragging in the easterly. Then the convective snow machine that is the north sea will fire up. Who gets what is up for debate but that's what makes these set ups exciting for me.
