Covering here but it’s been light and given no more than a covering.

Frustratingly and unusually for western up slopes,  the precipitation is largely dying out as it reaches here but then intensifying again as it crosses over into Yorkshire.

overnight and tomorrow looking better though so maybe a few cm by this time on Friday.

LOL

The forecast was always for this decaying front to be of a wintry mix so far all going to plan the DP and 850s set to decrease after midnight prior to next front from the North

C.S

BBC weather 2-5cm possible for low ground.

It’s been snowing on and off here all day, mostly on, without ever amounting to much more than an inch or two tops. Snowing again now steady away but with much bigger flakes.

A snizzlefest but at least it’s not melting, although that says far more about the ground temperature than the intensity of the precipitation.

The temperature is 0.0C and it’s still raining. The ground is now frozen in places and is deadly.

You've done well, only managed to squeeze a cm out of today down here and like you it's snowed pretty much all day.

Felt like deep mid winter though, temp barely above freezing, light snow and foggy. A real bone chilling kind of day.

Hardly any precipitation here, how is that even possible?

Especially when it bucks its ideas up as soon as it crosses into Yorkshire.

Hopefully that lot from the NE overnight has more intensity that today’s paltry effort.

That’s gonna cause some chaos on the roads tomorrow if it doesn’t melt

East Cumbria looking well placed for a fair bit of snow over next 12 hours or so.

We are just on the western edge of a further pulse dropping down from the NE, but its a positive it has made it this far west, and I remain hopeful will have a decent cover, not just a cm come dawn tomorrow. Would prefer a few inches, but an inch or two would be fine, shouldn't thaw much tomorrow, or through Saturday, so a couple of snow days could be on the cards.

Yes agree a proper mid winter January day, not had many of these in recent years. Had that bleak mid winter feel to it. Indeed mini-flashbacks to the first week in January 2010 feeling, but nowhere near as cold or as snowy as then.

Temperatures rose to about 1.5 degrees so no ice day, but very cold by any standards, I class any day with max of 2 degrees or less as very cold, benchmark used to be 0 degrees, but in these warming times, 2 degrees or less is preety good going.

Why do I have a sinking feeling, I hope the ppn doesn't take the same path and leave a big gap but wouldn't be surprised! so frustrating using reverse psychology may work!
