We have had no cover and no ice up to now so in the same boat, we ussally do pretty well IMBY but not this week.

We had a covering here of on Tuesday morning, but now just patches of snow left. I know what you mean though north Manchester usually does pretty well compared to south & west Manchester. There's been a strange snow distribution with areas that don't usually get it hitting the jackpot. And those areas that normally get more not getting as much as would be expected. Like a role reversal of fortune. Looked at the traffic cameras in Milnrow and Shaw and there's not a lot there either compared to near the Airport & Warrington way. They are pretty high up too...about 150-200m.

It felt mild earlier in the sun. It’s gaining strength every day now. Light rain showers still. There’s no warm air aloft, the uppers are really cold, but there’s a milder boundary layer somewhere, clearly (of course there is, this is the UK).

Looking boring for the foreseeable really. Partly cloudy and 3-4C every day. Night time around the 1/-1C mark. Would rather it be mild and sunny tbh, nothing worse than having surface cold but the wrong upper conditions to support snow. Not even any classic Irish Sea hail storms.

Maybe we’ll see some transient snow from the battleground for 5 mins before it all turns to rain.

Quite a bit of snowmelt this afternoon in any sun. Nearly got clobbered by this lot falling off the roof whilst taking the bin out! ❄️ Haven’t heard that sound of snow falling off the roof since Dec 2010 and that was with icicles on all the guttering and the most stunning hoar frost too. Hovered around 2c all day today making it locally the coldest day of the Winter so far for me despite the snowmelt. But like others have said it’s more faux surface cold rather than anything bitterly cold and big freeze like. January may change all that though. Happy New Year all here’s hoping 2021 is a brighter one for everyone!

Precipitation crossing the border now,I’m guessing it’s gonna be a sleety mess by the time it reaches here.

Yeah exactly! I have heard people in certain parts of the Pennines with nothing as well. Like you said it's odd for this to happen and even stranger 3 times in a week.

Frequent light snow showers this morning.  Dry and some weak sun this afternoon, so a thaw started.  Min temp last night minus 2.5.  Clouds down on fells till mid afternoon.    Looking foggy now down below and going misty here at 550ft.  Sky clear.

4 consective days now wth snow on ground.

Yesterday saw a white stoat (changed to ermine).  Camouflage ready   Has it seen a cold weather forecast?

Well, that’s the last of the showers gone through now; all of the energy is being zapped by the front coming down from the north.

I don’t think it’ll reach this far south, if it does, it’ll probably be too light to produce anything wintry. Although the radar suggests that only the highest ground is seeing any snow from it.

Really strange setup this. How many times do you see really cold surface temps, a front coming down from the north, that struggles to produce any snow

Front over S Scotland now crossing into Cumbria, can see some heavier precipitation within, and some sleet and snow just on high ground. Current temp here is 0.9 degrees, not sure about dewpoints. Might all break up as it moves through the central fells, conversely it may hold or pep up, in any heavier stuff evaporative cooling should kick into gear. However, there is milder air on its back edge, so it might be one of those occasions when it snows then turns to a sleety cold rain, mind temps behind it are not that high, so good chance won't be much snow melt, if any does fall and settle. I'm foreseeing very icy conditions tonight, so just as well everyone will be at home, otherwise would be lots of trips and falls, and its the last thing the hospitals need to deal with tonight.

Just checked dewpoints and they are currently 0 degrees, so in theory any precipitation that does fall should at least start as snow, or possibly freezing rain due to slightly warmer uppers.  By midnight temps are forecast to rise a couple of degrees, so a thaw will take place quite quickly. Tomorrow will be a milder day than recently, maxes of 3 possibly 4 degrees, the fells should hold onto the snow at least.

Cold & dank today...falling snow for about 79 seconds, other than that dry but misty.  Looking ahead to next week it will be strange to have an easterly that on paper will bring slightly milder air but the nagging breeze won't make it feel so.

1.5c and not even the slightest hint of sleet or snow in the rain that’s currently falling. Words can’t describe the frustration. Skies now clearing.

And I thought our 2 minutes of the lightest falling snow was a poor effort

northerlys are crap for this far inland and altitude means nothing when there’s no precipitation about although at least we had a decent covering yesterday morning which has pretty much hung around until a thaw set in this afternoon.

never mind, maybe next weeks easterly will delivery its forecasted cold drizzle and sleet.

Light snow here and alittle dusting

Well if nothing else, at least that is encouraging that the leading edge might be snow. PPN intensity will be an issue though.

Of course with the ground frozen, even light snow will bring a dusting quite quickly.

Well at the rate it's moving the precipitation near the Scottish borders will get here next week. Got my night sorted with a few bottles of black sheep riggwelter, be rude not to as we countdown to 2021. Hopefully a better year when things get back to normal for us all.

About to start the 4th consecutive air frost but means nothing if there is an inversion above. We need a reset of airmass

Well Thundersnow reported light snow in Carlisle so if it can snow there, maybe we should have some faith.

I suspect looking at the radar it probably wont get much better than that though.

Down to 0C again. The ice rinks are back. So is the fog.

Thought we staying cold

Yes but not cold enough for snow. This system is coming in with slightly less cold air

Does make you wonder how much snow we could of seen if the initial forecast was right and that stuff over northern Ireland was over us today? We will never know for certain but sadly the consolation prize wont be much of a consolation prize.

The met office really need to sort their forecasts out. No ice warning for tonight?! It was easy enough to see it was going this way from this afternoon. All of the roads away from the main ones are shocking. 0.0C. Lapland conditions minus the snow.
