Isn't that just a reprise of the generally unreliable forecasts of a specific model (GFS).

10cm of snow though, nice it came off.

Heavy graupel over the past 10 minutes occasionally mixing with sleet. quite vigourous convection, should be some lightning around the region in the next few hours.

Convection is now increasing as 500 mb temperatures drop.

Showers of rain, sleet and ice pellets rattling through here. Love it when it’s like this.

Temp has just dipped below 3C, snow clinging on in sheltered areas

Surprised seeing the wintry reports(sleet) coming in considering the uppers and dew temperatures. I do think when people mention sleety rain type showers, its not actually sleet because sleet for me is when you see actual snowflakes mixed in with the rain and not rain looking 'sleety'.

It’s snow here, flakes mixed in with flakes! No idea what the temp is or the dew point!

Hail, graupel, sleet, snow... had the lot in the last hour.

I see the direction has switched to a more north of west, hope the shower machine kicks in.

2 hours ago, I Cumbria Marra I said:

NW'lys are often dry here as we are sheltered by SW Scotland, the very south west of cumbria sometimes get clipped but the vast majority of the showers hit south of say Blackpool. We had a very cold NW'ly in 2009 i think which delivered 5cm in about 2 hours here and that was our lot whilst a streamer set up further south and the likes of blackpool and merseyside got 10-20cm i think. The south of the region is in a much more favourable position from a NW'ly than cumbria.

I agree to an extent, but places inland from the coast in the central lakes can see quite a few heavy snow showers aided by the instability caused by the cold air hitting the fells. Showers can leave a decent cover here.

Better direction is a westerly, and more so a WSW.

Tomorrow will be a north westerly, Saturday as well, but Sunday looks more of a Westerly even WSW.

I've just read MWIS forecast for Lake District, it's going for periods of constant snow on Sunday.

GFS is still showing Sunday’s frontal snow, WRF is not in range yet.

Saturday still looking like a good day- still favoring early am, then mid afternoon for the best of it.. but with frequent showers in-between , a couple of snapshots below from the 18Z UKV...image.thumb.png.3f3f09283ac36cd53628550662a688d2.pngimage.thumb.png.07244259155871c5464036770f434464.png

Estimated snow depths by Sun 09:00 - looking like South west could potentially get hit also.

Out of Macclesfield and roughly next to Rainow on the way to Whaleybridge via Kettlehulme.

I'm gonna setup a crowd funding page for a giant snow machine, then when the wind blows North West set it up on the top of the New Brighton high rises to blast the Wirral good n proper!

Excellent idea. Plus it'll create a few local jobs, as someone is going to have to clean it up when it gets milder.

Me and Will have already thought of that, you'll have to think of something else...

Edit, How about a giant Tesla coil to create your own lightning.
