Collected 81.0 mm from gauge this morning at 9GMT.   So that's the wettest 24 hrs recorded at this site since it was set up in 1968.

So last two days of this Christoph event total 109.1 mm -- and it is still raining steadily.

Average rain for January is 142.4 mm.   Wettest January was 263.6 mm in 2008.

And here's the Rain warning update

Reason for update

Warning end time shortened to 0600 Thursday and the area adjusted slightly, particularly by removing Norfolk. Mention of possible snow as rain clears.

Storm Christoph will continue to bring heavy rain across the region through the rest of today and into Thursday morning. An additional 20-30 mm is expected to fall widely with 50-60 mm further rainfall over parts of Wales and northern England. Rain may temporarily turn to heavy, wet snow as it clears, leading to a cover of 1-4 cm in places, possibly more on high ground. Strong winds will accompany the rain at times and may add to travel difficulties across higher and more exposed routes.

A few flooded roads around here but the river hasn’t burst its bank yet. The last time it did was Boxing Day 2015, will we get anywhere near that? Time will tell.

Temps already starting to drop out West. My Crosby station has fallen to 5.8°C and dropping quickly under heavy rain. Still 10.6°C here. Quite a difference in just 10 miles.

Heavy driving rain here. If it's still this heavy and manages to turn to snow later, there will be potential for quite a rapid accumulation of snow in a short space of time.

Yep it seems like the transition to colder temperatures is happening quicker than perhaps first thought. Looking at the GFS charts, the snow risk is a bit further south also it seems?

Whatever happens, snow will be transient at lower levels as winds will be coming in off the Irish Sea by morning time so make the most of it if anyone does get too see any.

Wow, impressive. cooling due to precipitation? I assume the colder air isn't digging in yet.

I think both. Colder air is diging in now but the real cold air comes in in a few hours.

Temp hasnt dropped much this morning, currently 7.7 degrees, with moderate rain. Uppers should lower more markedly through the afternoon, but thinking may not be enough to produce snow at low levels, more sleety and only in very heaviest bursts some wet snow. We shall see.

Rain is relentless at work in merseyside. Not particularly looking forward to the drive home later, the east lancs will probably be a shallow river as tends to happen in these rain events. Unsurprised the Amber was extended westward.
