This time last week we were just coming out of the last cold spell when  a front  stalled over us even though it was supposed to go south. Then we were all getting depressed thinking about having a UK high and then mild zonal.
Didn’t really turn out like that did it?

Sure it’s a bit zonal but it’s certainly not mild and we only had a UK high for one day.

After a day sitting in Bury watching snow fall but not settle I came home to this and it’s now freezing hard and will be treacherous later

And........ the MOD thread is on the rollercoaster climb again (that bit where you hear the ratchet click as you ascend)

This being before the ECM so prepare for the screams.

this was last weeks forecast for this week. We really can’t look beyond 3 days at the moment.

I need to stop looking in the Yorkshire thread or I won't be able to eat my tea.

Kinda shows we were not really close at all to anything significant at lower levels. Maybe PPN intensity was an issue but up here, I thought it was okay, at least a strong moderate rate. I think timing was not on our side as daytime heating(even with no sun) can play a part. Hopefully skies can clear and we can get some frosty weather for tomorrow.

As for further ahead, nothing too exciting, bog standard winter outlook too me.

Altitude was what it was all about for my area today, A537 cat and fiddle road, 515m asl was white over.  Sutton edge just above Macc at 325m asl, had a decent dusting.  Macc at 150m asl, had rain all day with a threat of sleet.  Dry at the moment.

The wait for more than a cm cover goes on... I remain patient, no doubt we'll get a trifle when no-one else does, such is the uniqueness of the Lakeland climate.

Another cold day with maxima below 3 degrees, racking up alot of these since Christmas Eve.

Does anyone know what this symbol represents in Netweather local daily forecasts?

Noticed that had appeared this season. I assume it means fog?

2 inches of settled snow to clear off the drive when I got home from work.

a bit disappointing considering what conditions were like on the other side of the Pennines and even more frustrating when they got a decent pasting while we got scraps last week but that seems to be the form horse at the moment.

in fairness to the Meto, the western edge of the warning zone was pretty much spot on though.

It means boring weather, nothing or see here and is the default setting for the North West

Yeah had falling snow at 170m didn’t settle, anywhere lower this far south and west didn’t stand a chance.

It’s like we’re continually shopping at a discount supermarket and still looking in the reductions section.

Don't think anywhere is getting Snow on Saturday looking at these charts as the 500-1000hpa way too high...maybe on the back edge?

No doubt the other side of the Pennines will do well out of it though.

i don’t begrudge them any of it though, just wish we could be in on the action once in a while
