I'm in Sheffield where it's supposedly snowing according to radar but I haven't seen a thing.

Urgh that's two bands that have pepped up and then fizzled away southwards just as they approached me! Sounds like they weren't anything special anyway. Anyone know whether Tuesday/Wednesday is going to give us anything?

Snowflakes ended up landing in Chesterfield apparently.

Not sure the majority will see much more today, maybe a few flurries but that is about it away from higher ground in the very South of the region.

Next potential interest again for the South of our region maybe tomorrow according to WRF-NMM, which brings the snow a bit further North compared other models.

After that, according to Harmonie, another potential band of snow moving North to South on Monday morning.

Is it just me that thinks the little system in Ireland is a bit further north ?

Looks to be slightly further East for 19.00 comparing Radar to ICON and WRF-NMM, but not sure it’s further North.

Looking at the current radar dont rule out South Yorkshire being in the sweet spot come later.

The WRF - NMM was the furthers north of all models and like the other snow spells is the most accurate up to now and had the north midlands as the spot for the pivot but as can be seen the front is wayyy further north into ireland and way further east by around 3 hours.

If we extrapolated that run on to current conditions south yorkshire could be in for a surprise!!

Id be worried if you were too far south and west in the country as it currently stands

Looks like todays snow will be to the South of our region, with the pivot point being in the Midlands.  Models have the northern extent in a line south Lincolnshire/Wash across to North Wales.  Icon is slightly further North taking some snow into North Derbyshire/South Yorkshire/Manchester.

The area of Ireland is moving westward so won't come into play. It's still moving towards northwards at a fair lick so now it's a case of radar watching and nowcasting. The forecast is for it to stay away from here and stop just to the south of us.

Black outline is roughly where we expect the band to pivot. Some models have it a little further north though. It could also be an area in which sees the longest spell of snow however it will likely be fragmenting by that time.

Might get a few flurries here in South Yorkshire but I'm not expecting anything more than this.

Hope I'm wrong.

WTF!? How do they come up with this nonsense? 453689268_Screenshot_20210124-065237_SamsungInternet.thumb.jpg.66b2ae001a60b91e07183bd7a03f5128.jpg

The usual nonsense from the METO automated system. Pivoting is taking place in East Midlands, even with a slight further north extent there is no way heavy ppn will reach Leeds area. Hope I'm proved wrong but I can't see it happening.

I'm not really into disruptive snow at the moment working in the NHS. Don't mind a dusting just to look at but getting to work is a nightmare

It's already been wrong for an hour and a half! Rubbish but we've done alright here this winter so far and prospect's of more to come so not too concerned by missing out today.

Yes we had already 2-3 decent events, I wouldn't mind a couple more though (or 5-6 more). I avoid looking at these automated weather apps. Last time we had 15cm and METO was showing heavy rain in nowcast.

Could Sheffield, Barnsley, Chesterfield and possibly Rotherham be in the game for a dusting later in the day? V8 says yes. This was just posted on the midlands regional.

Would be nice if it got that far,  but I’m not hopeful.  Although current Radar shows light snow in front of the main band, I don’t think the main band will reach us.

If you run the Radar through its sequence the ppn over N. Ireland and N. Wales is edging West South West which is the first sign that the front will stall before it then starts moving in a more South Easterly direction.

Looks very close to Sheffield on radar but I've a feeling little is actually falling from sky away from main band.
