White over here now.

Ventured up onto the tops earlier in a 4x4, crazy stuff, sideways snow, blue flashes of lightning, even saw a transformer explode and shower sparks everywhere.

White over here strong winds failed to turn up Max gust 45 mph and 40mph before and after midnight. Raining at three turned to snow soon after. Needs another foot or so to get to like 2010

About 3 inches of snow in Barnsley.

Didn’t really hear the wind during the night but it’s brought down our 20 year old 30+ foot Christmas tree in the front garden.  (It’s the dark shape botton right corner of the the first picture and it used to stand between the house and the garage.  It’s now leaning against the front of the house!)

Can’t help but think these Synoptics would have resulted in an all snow event 50 years ago.

Very valid point. Snow in Barnsley/Sheffield. Doncaster? Not a bit.  Narrow margins as ever, but with warming we'll see much less snow here these days.  Rain was torrential an hour ago though and woke us up hammering the windows.

Seems to the thawing real quick which as shame. A good few inches here in Barnsley.shame it couldn’t have come now and lasted for the morning.

Woke up to a covering in Wath upon Dearne. Not as much as some places but wasn't expecting to wake up to anything so a nice surprise. The weather has a similar feel to last winter but this is, if I remember correctly, exactly a week earlier than the first snow last year and that didn't settle. If the winter does follow a similar pattern to last year we should be in business as the arctic is a lot colder than this time last year.

A better picture of our downed Christmas tree, from outside and inside the house.

I've recorded one of the highest gusts in the country 91mph. That's the snow messing up the sonic. The analogue Anemometer had a first where is reading too low due to wet snow in the cups. It's now melted and showing a moderate N breeze.

Ten cm of wet snow here which is pretty impressive a sit fell from after three o'clock and 07:45.

One of the local roads has road works it's steep and the signs have blown down plus there's no sign on our road to say it's closed. People are driving down removing the cones round the hole and then driving through.  Reported to the police who aren't interested. Report it to the council which you can't as they are only open Monday to Friday.  I've reported it so if someone gets injured it's South Yorkshire's Police fault. Useless service.

Anyway some pics.

Good pics guys! Just rain at Heathrow haha!

Bet it's all melted by time I'm back in Rotherham

Earlier first snow than last season anyway for most, think that came a few days after Christmas last year!

First snow for me came on 4th December if I remember correctly but failed to settle so it's a week earlier this year and it's settled, although it's very wet so I expect it to melt or most of it. Could be problems with ice tomorrow morning as a consequence...

Just some very wet snow here last night on the coast, just rain showers now. I think the north sea is still too warm to support snow on a northerly at the coast. The wind has been picking up steadily since 6 this morning, and is now officially 'Blowing a hooley'. Trains cancelled north of Bridlington due to the weather, our nephew was due to visit today by train, but he postponed it.

Ah, I'll have to check then, maybe it was falling snow earlier than I remember! Looks like we've still just beat it then

Yeah tonight's slushy freeze won't be fun will it!
