It's not a radar fault so to speak, it's that the air is so dry beneath the cloud that the snow is evaporating before it reaches the ground. As the precip becomes heavier and the air beneath less dry, it should start to reach ground level.

Whats the different with the air in the south then?

Fine powdery type snow falling now, lots of it but different to what was falling earlier (which was larger flakes but not as much). Starting to dust (like icing sugar) on most surfaces

It's slowly warming up and becoming less dry from the south.

Heavy snow here now. Recovering the areas where snow had melted from earlier. Grass going white gradually

Getting heavier as I left Bedlinog. Bit lighter through Treforest but heavier now in Church Village. Looks like its In for the day. Interesting drive home I reckon. Better crack on then. Happy snow day you lot.

Coming down nicely here but very fine flakes. Covering all surfaces now other than main roads.

However can see it starting to lose intensity as it approaching us. The yellows turning to greens etc. The Vale of Glamorgan looks like the area holding best intensity while being east enough to avoid less cold air.

Can we all just agree that easterlies are boring for Wales 90% of the time?

Roll on a late winter northerly or north westerly. Who wants boring old easterlies?
